Pros : This is a great book if you are searching for a pattern to be done quickly with hand tools. I have made several of the patterns and the final products have been simple and beautiful.
Cons : The patterns in this book are not for beginners. All of the patterns require moderate skill. Many of the patterns also require copper foil or wire overlays which in my opinion cheapen the look of the final product. Rather than using the overlays, I simply added a few pieces to each pattern and cut all the lines rather than "faking" them with overlays.
Other Thoughts : I love all of the ... pieces or less serious. If you sell your work like I do, they are easy patterns for a quick buck!!!
Pros : The patterns are appealing and of low complexity.
Cons : Most of the patterns contain some very challenging pieces for beginners. They might be tiny pieces (see top right of duck pattern) or pieces with narrow necks that are sure to break without lots of grinding or a glass saw. Check the pattern carefully and get spare glass for the difficult pieces.
Other Thoughts : The book seems to appeal to beginners but I would suggest that beginners look elsewhere.
Pros : With 20 pieces, the patterns are not too time-consuming. So far, I have created two of the designs. The pieces turned out very pretty.
Cons : This book appeals to someone on a beginner or intermediate skill level. I consider myself somewhere between those two levels. The title, "20 pieces or less," implies that these patterns are easy pieces to cut. I do not think that these patterns were tested. I created the poppy that is shown on the cover. The top two flower petals required a jigsaw to cut the circled portion of the piece. Most beginners do not own a saw! My instructor took home these two pieces and cut the two out for me.
