Pros : Whatever pros there may be are outweighed by the cons.

Cons : The clear safety glasses in this kit are not sufficient to protect your eyesight from the glare of the flame. At the very least, this kit should include didymium glasses. It is irresponsible to market a kit like this to beginners who may not be aware of the required eye protection.

Pros : I had been to a bead making class and got hooked! It was hard to source in NZ so bought from Delphi and service was great. Kit has good range of glass and tools.

Cons : The mandrels are pretty big - I've ordered the 1/16th" ones to replace these - they leave the hole in the bead too wide which you can see on jewelry pieces. Also the sludgey stuff dries out - I've found adding water and stirring well brings it back to life.

Pros : My mom bought me the Hot Head Bead Making Kit for Christmas the year I had my son. I was impressed that the kit had everything included except the MAPP gas. I felt confident that I could, for a fairly low investment from my mom, create unique glass beads literally right out of the box!

Cons : I was slightly intimidated to set up my glass-bead making space. I was overly worried with safety; however the folks at Delphi were exceedingly helpful. One con of the Hot Head Kit is that it doesn't come with a lot of instruction.

| Other Thoughts : If you are at all nervous about using the torch for the first time, purchase a good instructional video (or a book for beginner flameworking) from Delphi to help you get started. I tried getting a book or video from the library, but there wasn't much available that suited my needs as a beginner.
I would also urge buyers of the Hot Head Bead Making Kit to take a class if possible. Delphi's Lansing in-house instructors are technically knowledgeable and very impressive as instructors! One class had me taking my new bead making craft much further than I anticipated going. |

Pros : It's a good kit for beginners. Everything you need to get started to see if you like flameworking.

Cons : I didn't like the glasses. I would have preferred the kit to include Didymium glasses. The glasses that come with the kit are too dark.

Pros : Has all the supplies (except the tank of gas, obviously) to start working right away. I used this kit to start beadmaking; I'm not very good at it yet, but it's a lot of fun, and I only burnt myself once.

Cons : The kit doesn't have an instructional book or DVD, which would really be helpful. The torch head is sensitive and sometimes goes out.
