What is Glass Fusing? "Fusing" is the process of heating glass to extreme temperatures until glass melts (fuses) together. Fusing glass in a kiln is a fascinating technique that enables artists and crafters to create unique and gorgeous projects. Fusing is a process, just like stained glass or mosaics, and once you know all the terms and tools, the possibilities are endless and the results are amazing! Levels of Fusing

| Step-by Step: Glass Fusing | |||||
| 1. | One way to create with fusible glass is to use a mold to slump the glass, as we did to create this plate. Fused glass plates are excellent beginner projects. Decorate a clear plate disk with frits, confetti and stringers to achieve the pattern and colors of your choice. Terminology: Frits (crushed glass), Confetti (thin chips of glass), Stringers (thin rods of glass). | ||||
| 2. | 1st Firing: The decorated disk is then fused by firing it in a kiln to approximately 1400 degrees. | ||||
| 3. | 2nd Firing: The fused disk is slumped in a plate mold to achieve a plate shape. The disk is placed on a mold and fired again to approximately 1200 degrees. | ||||
| 4. | A fused glass plate - ready to be used and admired! | ||||
