With Glass Enamels!
What is Glass Enameling?
Enameling is the process of applying finely ground glass power, also known as enamel, onto glass. It can be sifted on dry or mixed with a medium and painted on. It is then fired in an enameling furnace, kiln or with a torch (the firing method varies depending on the medium used), permanently bonding the enamel to the surface.
Step-by-Step: Enameling on Glass
|
1. Clean your glass with dish detergent and warm water, rinse well and dry. Place stencil on glass and fill sifter about 1/3 full of dry enamel.
2. Use index finger, pencil or paintbrush, or tap on sifter cup to release enamel and apply an even coat. For different enamel colors, sections of the stencil can be covered with paper.
3. Using a line sifter can be helpful to add detail. The enamel powders are applied through a small opening at the end of the tool, making it perfect for adding detail.
4. Remove stencil by making a small handle on both ends of the stencil, using a strip of copper foil or masking tape.
5. Fire your piece. Allow kiln to cool, and enjoy your project!
