IZABELLA - LA ISOLA (The Island) collection presents
#39-0712-6 LI "CACTUS KEY" (12" Round Tack Fused Glass Art Sculpture with Wrought Iron Stand)
This is a one of a kind art piece numbered and signed by the artist.
There are some 1700+ keys reported in the Florida Keys alone and multitudes of others up and along the Gulf Coast of Flori da. None are named "CACTUS KEY".
CACTUS KEY pays tribute to our endangered KEY TREE CACTUS (Pilosocereus robinii). In the US it is known to exist only in our Florida Keys and from as early as 1917 has been on the edge of endangerment to extinction primarily as a result of habitat destruction due to commercial and residential development. Its preservation is widely supported by conservation and botanical organizations, research facilities and botanical gardens.
This particular cactus is unusual because it is an actual tree like plant with a trunk and reaching 20-30 feet in height. It produces a red purple fruit and beautiful large white nocturnal blooms which unfortunately are said to smell like garlic.
This sculpture is created to embrace a multitude of elements, the KEY TREE CACTUS, crystal clear aqua ocean waters, rolling waves, a gentle clean beach shoreline, and a glowing bright orange sun.
Dichroic glass used in select areas throughout the piece magnifies the reflected sunlight with sparkle and iridescense. Iridescent browns mimic the rich soil needed by the Key Tree Cactus to flourish as it does not grow in sand.
Contrasting shades of blues, turquoise, greens and orange bring this piece to be vibrant and beautiful.
