When one thinks of the shore, or any seaside vacation location Salt Water Taffy is a close association, as a favorite specialty treat, no visit to the ocean or beach is quite complete without it. Available in just about every flavor imaginable and in a rainbow of colors this sweet treat is an all American favorite.

Dating originally back to the late 1800's it is said to have originated in Atlantic City New Jersey in a seaside candy store which had been flooded with seawater after a major storm. When a little girl came in and asked for some taffy the shop keeper told her he only had salt water taffy. It was a joke originally, however the little girl was delighted and accepting it gratefully, she shared her new treat with her friends. It "Salt Water Taffy" quickly became a favorite request of young and old alike. Although there is no salt actually in this popular sweet treat, from that point on it began being called "Salt Water Taffy".

This beautiful glass art sculpture renders a graceful sailboat with a full sail in a rainbow of colors. The fresh airiness of the sculpture combined with the bright colors reminded me of a handful of Salt Water Taffy, and so it is named.

The scene sets itself on clear blue gulf waters on a beautifully clear sunshiny day. This graceful sail moves through the waters, its colorful rainbow sail adding a light fresh candy like sensation to the piece. Peeking up along the horizon are glimpses of peaceful and remote small off shore islands which dot the southwest Florida coastline.

Fresh, beautiful, and light with lots of transparency, this sculpture is nautical, uplifting and completely a breath of fresh air to any decor.
