Was frustrated 4 stars
By CappyHouck on April 5, 2010 - See all my reviews
Pros : Once I watched the videos I went back and started cutting right away. I really enjoy it.
Cons : The instructions were so detailed I felt like I needed to take a college course to do them. Got very very frustrated. Watching the videos helped me. Need to put those videos in the package.

Overall a Great Tool, But Prepare for a Learning C 5 stars
By jamesfgeor on October 21, 2009 - See all my reviews
Pros : I use this system with almost every project I undertake. It allows you to score and break glass resulting in burr-free surfaces, which means less or no grinding, and much better foil adhesion. Overall, it is a welcome and necessary tool for me.
Cons : The user manual is unnecessarily confusing. The graphics often conflict with the text, and I find that I'll be 3 pages in on a subject, and then find a paragraph heading saying "Read this First." One would expect that on the first page, *before* the settings are made as instructed by the previous pages. Also, there's lots of "choose explanation B" unless you are left-handed, then choose option C, skipping steps 8-12, but step 11 will tell you it must not be skipped, and must be followed by Option B. Really, a thorough re-write of the manual by someone other than the original author would help *tremendously*.
Other Thoughts : The kit includes an instructional CD to help you understand the written instructions. Inexplicably, the CD is an *audio* CD and not a video showing the techniques. Further, the audio is just a literal reading of the printed manual, which doesn't aid in understanding at all. How difficult would it be to use a video camera and record mpgs of the procedures? All in all, I am glad I stuck through the learning curve for this system despite the confusing documentation. It really is a wonderful system to use, and is quickly becoming indispensable to me.

Morton System Start up kit 5 stars
By beneurotic on May 24, 2009 - See all my reviews
Pros : I love the fact that they have videos on their website that get you started as well as a CD included. Easy to set up, use and love it!
Cons : Sometimes the glass doesn't glide easy, so bought the stainless steel balls which worked wonders but I thought should be included in the start up kit.
Other Thoughts : took a while to number the board. Would have been helpful to have that predone in the manufacturing process.

Morton Glass Cutting System 5 stars
By bstadtler on February 25, 2009 - See all my reviews
Pros : Straight cuts, easy to set up
Cons : none
Other Thoughts : Just got it last night and set it up, didn't take long to do. Tried cutting some squares and they came out perfect which is hard to do when marking with a pen and cutting. the glass breaking tool works much better then running pliers. The edges come out very smooth.

Must-Have Tool System 5 stars
By airecastle on January 13, 2009 - See all my reviews
Pros : I cut straight lines free-handed for six years, then finally purchased this Morton Start-Up Kit. The entire kit is dead-on accurate, first for fast and easy 90 degree square cuts and excellent for any possible other angle. I was slow to use the break button as well, but now find it easy to use, especially with larger pieces of glass. I use the rubber buttons to prevent glass slippage all the time and with glass that is really slick, the yellow adjustable Morton blocks save the day, preventing any foul cuts. I save a huge amount of time and glass, since I have no mis-cuts, except when I mis-measure. Using the Morton System is easy, quick to learn and if a person cuts very much glass at all, it pays for itself in no time. Did I mention all the little shards of glass I used to get when cutting in a flat surface? No cuts and no shards in my hands now with the Maxi-Surface. I added to the collection with tool caddies for my markers and the oil cup as well. All worth six stars.
Cons : I find very little to criticize in the Start-Up Kit. In fact, the only thing I can truly criticize is that my pistol-grip cutter shaves microscopic shards off of the aluminum bar, which could only be corrected if the bar were made of a tougher alloy, but then the cutter should not have such a sharp edge, so it is difficult to blame the Morton System swing-arm.
Other Thoughts : I teach private classes and demonstrate the entire Morton System in my Intermediate classes. Students comments in almost every class are the same, "Well, I got to have one of these." Personally, I do not know why I went for so many years before buying one. The technology cannot be beaten.

Excellent addition 5 stars
By Debbie B. on January 2, 2009 - See all my reviews
Pros : Excellent addition to the studio. The glass chips fall into the tray, the cuts are straight and all the same size.
Cons : Can't think of any.
Other Thoughts : We have not done anything more then cut straight lines. Not sure whats on the CD.

Couldn't work without it 5 stars
By seraphina on December 23, 2008 - See all my reviews
Pros : The entire system is easy to setup and use. The large size of the maxi grid gives plenty of room for cutting larger pieces, yet still works great on small items. The straight arm is sturdy. The waffle grid traps small glass bits keeping them out of harms way.
Cons : Must have enough table space to fit the maxi grid. This is not a good choice if you need to be portable.
