| My favorite SAW!
Pros : This saw is a terrific tool for the glass studio! I also have a Diamond Laser Band saw, but the Taurus cuts RINGS around the band saw (Pun totally intended!) Taurus saw can cut in any direction, whereas the band saw only cuts in 1 direction. Comes with a DVD of instructions and cool hints for cutting more than 1 layer at a time. I LOVE IT!!! FAST! FUN! EASY!!!
Cons : My only complaint is the LOUD noise.
| Not so sure
Pros : Easy to clean, nice cuts
Customer service is very friendly and has so far solved my many problems.
Great hobby saw.
Cons : Hard to see if you are cutting small pieces.
Blade moves a lot, if you put the stabilizer blade on it does help, but now it is even harder to see.
manual is outdated, and information is wrong.
The issue with the tension arm is not solved properly, at least not in my case.
Light cloggs up with glass and light dissipates.
Parts do not last at all and are very expensive to replace.
I am on my second saw in less than 2 years and will have to call geminini tomorrow and I fear i have to get a new drive gear... If I have to send the saw back I will be without a saw for at least 3 weeks!!! Or having to buy a new one to use as these fail. With a 3 year warranty I should not be asked to send it back without a replacement. These are tools that are necessary for many of us to work and produce, that is hard if you don't have major tools.
| Other Thoughts : I have not tried other saws but will shortly as I feel I can't trust this saw and need to have a backup to be able to work instead of using time trying to figure out what is wrong and change expensive parts that should have worked better. I feel this is a great hobby saw, but it does not live up to its promises in a busy studio. |
| Taurus 3.0 Saw
Pros : Cuts quick and clean,
lighted area is nice,
large working platform is good.
Cons : Louder than most other saws, hard to see through guard, raise guard for better vision.
| Other Thoughts : Would buy again and recommend to others. Future modifications concerning noise and line of vision will help. |
| Great saw for home/hobby use
Pros : I like the saw for cutting intricate shapes. Saves time and money when you consider the breakage factor when cutting manually sometimes (although you should know how to cut glass by hand and not rely on the saw).
Cons : The shield makes it difficult to see your work. I took my shield off and use safety glasses instead. The parts can be pricey to replace.
| Other Thoughts : When cutting from a pattern, the DVD suggests using rubber cement to attach your paper pattern to the glass. This works great and peels off quickly without leaving a residue behind. I just make sure that I have a nice coat over the whole paper pattern piece so it doesn't disintegrate in the water when cutting. Makes seeing where you are cutting easier too if you use a contrasting color paper for your pattern. |
| Only saw I'd use - I'm on #2!
Pros : Great saw and instructional video. This is my 2nd ring saw (had the original Taurus) and it goes, goes, goes! Worth it for tough cuts but I wouldn't cut a whole project with it. Know how to cut glass first- don't compensate by buying a saw. The saw is not a cure-all. Plan to get wet (even with hole reducers) and wear safety glasses. The shield is good protection but I like more protection than that. Adding the blade stabilizer was a really good idea. KEEP IT CLEAN!
Cons : Noisy and if you use it a lot, expect a fair amount of regular maintenance and replacement parts including blades $$.
| Other Thoughts : Also like the accessory kit and different blades available. |
| Buyer Beware
Pros : I have had my saw for about 2 years, and the only posative thing I can say about it is that it makes cuttng intricate shapes easy - WHEN its working.....
Cons : The saw has about 4 hours of use on it and so far I have had problems with almost every aspect of the saw. The tension problem is definately NOT resolved, at least not for me. The saw makes a huge amount of noise, even more when it is not working properly. What I do not understand is why I can go to home depot and get a tile saw for less than $100 with a metal casing and quality parts, but I spent more on this saw and have had nothing but problems with the cheap platic construction.
| Other Thoughts : Although the idea of a ring saw is excellent, I think I will get a Band saw next go around. I would definately NOT recomend this tool to a friend. |
| Love it!
Pros : This was the second glass saw I tried. My first was a bandsaw which I hated. This saw was easy to use and enabled me to make those formerly "impossible" cuts. It's compact size was a welcome addition to my small studio. The instructional video was easy to follow but practice was the best teacher.
Cons : The saw was very noisy. The blades don't seem to last long and are expensive to replace.
| Other Thoughts : As a starving artist, I thought long and hard about making this somewhat expensive purchase. It was worth the money! |
| Great saw
Pros : This is the favorite tool of our studio. We use it a lot and it's still like new. You just need to take it ease and let the saw dictate the cutting speed. It’s perfect for 90 or 96 with window glass you will have to cut slower or small pieces or glass will be all over you.
We use it as a grinder for details too!
Cons : You might need to replace the belt if you use it a lot.
| Greatest Stained Glass tool
Pros : This is the greatest tool for cutting glass. I've been able to cut glass more precisely than ever before. I wouldn't trade my Taurus Ring saw for anything.
Cons : It's a little difficult getting all the glass dust residue out of the basin because of the various divots, but everything else far out weighs this.
| Other Thoughts : I discovered putting a small amount of dish washing soap and ice in the water makes the saw cut even better. |
| LOVE this saw!
Pros : This saw has increased my creativity--you wouldn't believe the detail that you can cut in any glass. Cuts cleanly, great detail
Cons : This saw is LOUD and it is a bit difficult to see those small pieces at the blade area. Expect to get a bit wet while using the saw too
| Other Thoughts : I DO recommend this saw to everyone--it's FUN to cut glass with it and makes me believe that the possibilities are endless. |
