Metal Stamping is Easy
to Do
With Tools & Kits From Delphi!
What is Metal Stamping?
Creating a design in metal blanks by applying pressure with a Chasing Hammer
and Steel Bench Block is known as stamped metal art. Although stamping itself
is a fairly simple technique, when mixed with some creativity, you can create
unique charms, pendants, bracelets, jewelry connectors, dog tags and more.
Using letter, symbol and picture stamps, you're quickly on your way to
creating personalized jewelry.
Step-by-Step: Metal Stamping
|
| 1. Start by choosing your pre-cut metal blanks
(image 1a) or create your own blanks by drawing and cutting out a template on
paper and tracing it onto sheet metal with a permanent marker. Cut out with
metal shears (image 1b). |
| 2. If using your own pre-cut blanks, file any
sharp edges. Mark and punch a hole in each charm where you would like to
attach it. |
| 3. Using stamps, Chasing Hammer, and Steel Bench
Block, stamp your words and designs on the blanks as desired. Each metal will
contain characteristics unique to that metal. We recommend practicing on a
piece of scrap metal prior to beginning your project. For additional detail,
lightly hammer the outside edges of the blanks using the round end of the
Chasing Hammer. |
