Using Bevel Clusters

@comments4. Thank you, you answered my exact questions. I've already trimmed and numbered my cluster and centered it on the template but I was struggling with whether or not to tack solder. Now I can go ahead, validated by your comment, great confidence builder. I've worked in stained glass for years but never did anything with a bevel so getting answers to my exact questions was great, thanks!

@rozearle I've been foiling bevels/clusters 18years, no problem. Unlike lead, foil adds virtually nothing to the size.

@rozearle Bevel clusters can be assembled with lead came or copper foil, so by all means, add a beautiful bevel to your copper foil project! A bevel cluster shouldn't cause a panel to grow. Bevels are generally handmade, so there can be some slight variance from the layout pattern. Your best bet to ensure you get a perfect fit is to order your bevel cluster before you begin work on your project. Many artists find it beneficial to make any adjustments needed to the bevel cluster, foil and tack solder the pieces together first, then trace the assembled cluster onto their pattern to customize the fit of the background glass pieces.

I am adding a bevel cluster to a copper foil project. Can Bevels be foiled? Also does the bevel cluster add space to the pattern...Do I need to adjust the size for the bevel cluster?

I want to purchase 9 premade bevels to fit the opening in my front door. However, I won't be able to remove the existing glass and will have to attach it someway to the existing glass. The stiles between the windows are probably too small to use a wood frame to hold it in. Does anyone have any suggestions or instructions for a do it yourself job like this? And forgive a really stupid question - would these clear bevels go in the inside or the outside of the door? Thanks for any direction anyone can provide. :-)

If you are cutting an inch or more off you could score it with a glass cutter and use running pliers. If it is less than an inch you will or may need to use a saw.

I have to cut a 4 x 4 square bevel for my panel...what's the best way to cut a bevel?
