@ To assemble the glass, you can opt to use zinc H channel came if the design works well with a rigid came (few curved pieces). If your design is more intricate or has more organically shaped pieces, assembly with lead came or copper foil would be suggested. The lead free came that is flexible has a low melting temperature and unfortunately cannot be combined with zinc came or other lead-free solders which require a higher working temperature.
Hello, i'm doing a light house SG project. It calls for wire overlay for the lighthouse railings. Could you explain how to do it and what wire i should purchase. Thank You
I have an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner I bought for cleaning my airbrush and found that it is perfect for cleaning nuggets prior to foiling. I just dump all my nuggets in the basket, add enough glass cleaner and water (about 1 part cleaner to 2 parts water) to cover them, let the thing run for a few minutes, then take them out and dry thoroughly. And just like that you have nice, clean nuggets that foil will actually adhere to.
I need to know how to measure the oak frame pieces for my finished stained glass. The oak frame stock is 2". How far from the panel itself should I measure?
@jaylynn, provided it is a tri-section screen that will be a distance from the fire, any glass will work. Darker colors absorb heat more readily, so you should stick with lighter colored designs. If you are making a flat screen that will be right up against the opening, then regular art glass won t work. Hope this helps! :)
i want to make a fireplace screen. My concern is how does the glass hold up to the heat? i don't want it to crack. is there a specific kind of glass to use when making a fireplace screen?
The flux cleaner works by neutralizing the acids found in the flux. It takes up to five minutes for this to happen. It is important to apply the fulx cleaner and brush it into all the small areas when cleaning the project and to continue brushing for at least five minutes. Apply more remover if necessary during this process. Then rinse well (Kwik Clean does not require rinsing) and apply a finnishing compound.
My pieces seem to oxidize and have more white residue on them than others I have seen. I use distilled water and Kwik clean to clean them and a finishing compound to polish. They still develop the white residue in a few days. What else can I do to prevent this?
Thank you so much for your response. I will apply the clear lacguer or enamel.........
@[email protected] One of our Delphi Glass instructors uses clear lacquer or enamel to protect his stained glass pieces for outdoor display. We are here in Michigan and get some extreme weather at times! He uses it in spray form and applies a thin coat to the entire piece.
