Pros : none
Cons : cold spots, heat inconsistant
| Other Thoughts : I owned a weller 100 for over 10 years using it almost everyday. It always worked great, with consistant heat. I had a bit that seize up in the iron and I ruined my iron trying to get the bit out. I was excited about getting a new weller 100 but have been terribly disappointed. The first one quit after one use and the replacement has cold spots so I can never run a good bead. |

Pros : When it works and heats evenly, this iron is great. I'm new to stained glass and had fun with the first 5 or 6 projects.
Cons : I started a large project, picked up the iron, touched the solder with it and it isn't heating properly. It's been a headache! I've tried extra cleaning, I've tried extra flux, I've unscrewed the tip and cleaned inside, but it's still not getting hot enough to do a nice job. It's almost not worth it if the products are that bad and keep having to be replaced. I've had my iron for less than one year and have done about a dozen projects with it.

Pros : If it works well, it is a great iron.
Cons : Tip is not evenly hot, have had bad experiences with three irons over the last year.
| Other Thoughts : I was always told that Weller was the iron to have if you intend to have stained glass work as a serious hobby. My father bought one of these irons in the 80's and it was still working when I took up the hobby three years ago. It finally gave out early in 2010 and I ordered a replacement, without hesitation. That iron had cool spots and the solder didn't flow like I thought it should. Come to find out, there was a recall of the irons and mine was a bad one. I sent my iron back and it was quickly replaced with a brand new iron. It worked great for the first two times I fired it up. Then the third time, it just quit. I called their customer service and got another replacement iron. I just started using it this past weekend, and much like the "recall" iron, it has cool spots and does not perform at all like I feel it should. Am going to buy another brand. |

Pros : Reliably maintains heat on even long beads. Works well with many different solder types and melting points.
Cons : Handle gets a little warm when used for extended periods.
| Other Thoughts : This is a great iron and worth the extra money. I have used mine for about 2 years without any problems. It heats up quickly and stays at operating temperature even while soldering long beads, allowing even and consistent beads. |

Pros : The iron is lightweight and well balanced
Cons : This iron has "cold spots" which is a big minus for me.
