Pros : My glorious international model of the Taurus 3 Ring Saw was a solid investment that I have found is totally value for money.
I'm now limited only by imagination - it cuts curves, circles etc in glass superbly - and the edges are left smooth and don't need further grinding. The light over the blade is very useful too I find. Easy enough to use for anyone - cuts through glass and stone - but won't cut my fingers - so totally safe to use. There's just so much fun to be had with a machine like this - and I'm the envy of my friends in the mosaic association, that's for sure. I have cut shapes of parrots and leaves etc from the most beautiful art glass and mirror - beautiful objects in their own right - but which can be used in my mosaic art too. You could make so many unique objects out glass, marble and stone, with this beauty. A friend gave me left-over stone from kitchen bench top - I want a cutting board so aim to cut to size, rounding and smoothing corners all in one go!
Cons : I must admit, the worst part of using it, is having to clean out the bottom of the tank, which has the left-over powdered glass sitting suspended in the water that the ring saw drives through. But hey, its a necessary activity which is more than paid for by the delight of working with this machine. I've learned to organise all my cutting in one go, so this effort is minimised.
What is not to like about the versatility of this machine? The biggest drawback I'm experienced so far - is that I just do not have enough time to use it as much as I'd love!
Other Thoughts : Many artisans could find uses for this baby! We deserve the right tools so we can let our imaginations run free.
Pros : Wow, this tool is fantastic, makes you wonder how you lived without it for so long.
Intricate cutting is just so easy as is general slicing.
I had to change the plug to a sealed Oz 3pin when it arrived but that is the only change required.
Cons : I am not sure if I lost the face shield or it didn't arrive, but be prepared for a lot of fine glass splatter. You need to shower after using if you have bare arms & throat.
Other Thoughts : I would recommend using a full face shield when operating, just to protect against the powdered glass that sprays out with the water as you are cutting.
