Approx. Material Cost: Gotta love an all in one!
Don't shoot the messanger...
Experience Required: Students must have previous fusing experience, such as a beginning fusing class like Fusing Is Fun or Beginning Fusing: 101 or Fusing Fundamentals.
Type of Class: Demonstration and hands-on projects
Class Description: 1 Day - 2 amazing techniques in this one-day class! Combing is an exciting process of manipulating hot glass in a kiln using a stainless steel rake to pull across the surface of the molten glass. This motion causes different colors to blend and streak in unique one-of-a-kind patterns. You'll make a finished project with their combed piece. See how to set up the vitrigraph kiln to produce hot swirls of color and shapes in hot glass. Manipulate the molten glass as it flows out of the bottom of the kiln to create your designs. Use the finished free formed stringers to create a totally unique piece of fused glass art. Topics will include kiln safety, set-up and firing schedules.
Safety: Not to fear, glass is safe however we do have a few safety procedures to ensure this. Closed toed shoes are recommended when cutting or handling glass. Safety glasses should be worn during class. Glasses will be provided if necessary.
Tools & Materials Included: All materials for both projects are included. An outline and printed fusing schedules will be provided. Use of our grinders and saws
Additional Tools & Materials: Pen/paper for notes
Cancellation Policy: Life happens, we totally understand. If you are unable to join class, please contact us at 517-394-4685, or leave us an email at [email protected], prior to class starting for a refund or to be added to a future class.

Pros : Another fun day doing fun fusing things with Roy. Since I had taken theclass before, this time I had a better idea what I was going to for my projects, and also what colors I was going to use for them My sister also had a lot of fun. And she really enjoys coming in from NY to take classes with Roy. When she took a class at Bullseye, they didn't let them do much or keep any of the stringers they made, so she was so she was really having fun with the process. The only thing I am upset about is that I forgot to take a picture of the plate with the stringers on it before I left. I like to have a record of everything I do.
Cons : As I said in the survey the last time I took the class, it really needs to be a longer class. Even though I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to accomplish, it still seemed like I was having a hard time getting organized to finish the final project. That was not Roy's fault, I just couldn't get the plate to look like I wanted it to. My guess is if I sat there for another hour, I would still have had a hard time making something I was happy with, it was just that kind of creative (or not creative) day.
Other Thoughts : This is a great class. Julie and I took our stringers home and spent an hour dividing them up. She carefully packed hers to take with her back to NY. Mine are still sitting on the dining room table waiting to go down to the basement to be organized for new projects. I love taking classes at Delphi, and I can't wait to get my projects when they are complete. After all, we can't go 2 or 3 weeks without our 'Delphi fix'!
Pros : Fun class with a great teacher. Explains everything in a way that is easily understood and very patient with any questions.
Looking forward to other classes.
Thank you.
Pros : I really loved being able to try out two new fusing techniques, both a bit challenging in their own ways.
Roy showed us examples of combed pieces, talked about safety, and then we started to assemble our projects. We had the option of getting glass from the showroom, as well, if we couldn't find a color we wanted. We had to work quickly once the kilns were open, but you feel prepared for it.
We did two sessions of vitrigraph (one about an hour into the class; the second at the end) each with different color combinations, and each student had at least two chances to work with the molten glass flow. The challenge here was working the glass once it started pouring quickly, and holding your arms up long enough to maneuver the glass.
Each person took home a bunch of vitri stringers, one combed tile/dish, and we had the chance to make a final plate/dish with the stringers we produced. As usual, Roy's teaching style was positive, fun, and he gave specific suggestions to each person.
Cons : Definitely helps to have glass cutting and fusing experience before taking this class... You do jump right in!
As with many of Delphi's classes, I wish we had more time. You get enough time to try everything out and learn how each of the techniques work, but I'd love more time to just experiment at the end.
Pros : This class is a wonderful combination of two methods. Roy kept the class engaging and rolling going from student to student. The real value, however, is in the stories Roy shares of his own experience! Anyone with any skill level would gain from this class.
Pros : So much to learn and do in this class. Had fun going between 2 projects with an instructor that was eager to teach. Every time I come to Delphi is such a new and rewarding experience. Generous with the glass and allowing creativity to reign keeps me coming back. Roy is an instructor that instills confidence while keeping a relaxed atmosphere recommend taking this class.
Pros : This is the most amazing class. A friend and I took the class to learn some new techniques. Roy was our instructor and was awesome. He explained everything perfectly and made sure we had everything we needed as far as glass colors, etc. We never felt rushed and we got to make two very interesting projects to take home (or mailed to us since we were from out of town). He answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable. I had just recently purchased a vitrigraph, but if you are thinking of getting one, take the class first because after seeing his, I could have saved some money on the type of kiln I bought. I can hardly wait to try these new techniques on my own. I definitely feel like after this class I can totally tackle these with confidence. We drove 8 hours to take the class. Worth every mile. My friend and I geeked out the entire day and there were several high fives when we saw the different stages of our projects. Thanks to Roy who made our day special!
Cons :
Other Thoughts : Every employee I encountered at Delphi was very kind and helpful. I felt welcome in the classroom as well as the showroom and warehouse area. Great experience with great people.
