Class Description: Learn these two advanced fusing techniques in this one-day class. Combing is an exciting process of manipulating hot glass in a kiln using a stainless steel rake to pull across the surface of the molten glass. This motion causes different colors to blend and streak in unique one-of-a-kind patterns. Students will make a finished project with their combed piece. See how to set up the vitrigraph kiln to produce hot swirls of color and shapes in hot glass. Manipulate the molten glass as it flows out of the bottom of the kiln to create your designs. Use the finished free formed stringers to create a totally unique piece of fused glass art. Topics will include kiln safety and set-up, shelf. All materials for both projects are included.

Safety: Please do not wear sandals if cutting or handling glass. Safety glasses must be worn during class, provided if needed.

Tools & Materials Included: An outline and printed fusing schedules will be provided. Use of our grinders and saws

Pros : I learned 2 new techniques. They were a lot of fun, but I am not sure I will try either of them at home. As usual, Roy was very enthusiastic about these techniques, and made the class fun. I cannot wait to get my pieces when they are finished. I plan to email Roy later to let him know that I plan to pick them up in the next week or two.
Cons : We were a little rushed to get everything accomplished in the amount of time we had. It might be a good idea to add at least another 30 min to an hour on to the class. Or if that is not possible, allow us to stay longer to finish up the project. But to be fair, Roy did let us stay a little longer than 4pm. But I still felt rushed making the last project.
Other Thoughts : This is a class I would take again. I could go into the class with ideas already planned to use for the combing project. And I could also have a better idea of how to use the vitrigraph pieces we made.

Pros : This is the most amazing class. A friend and I took the class to learn some new techniques. Roy was our instructor and was awesome. He explained everything perfectly and made sure we had everything we needed as far as glass colors, etc. We never felt rushed and we got to make two very interesting projects to take home (or mailed to us since we were from out of town). He answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable. I had just recently purchased a vitrigraph, but if you are thinking of getting one, take the class first because after seeing his, I could have saved some money on the type of kiln I bought. I can hardly wait to try these new techniques on my own. I definitely feel like after this class I can totally tackle these with confidence. We drove 8 hours to take the class. Worth every mile. My friend and I geeked out the entire day and there were several high fives when we saw the different stages of our projects. Thanks to Roy who made our day special!
Cons :
Other Thoughts : Every employee I encountered at Delphi was very kind and helpful. I felt welcome in the classroom as well as the showroom and warehouse area. Great experience with great people.
