Type of Class: Demonstration and hands-on project
Class Description: Sandblasting is a versatile process with a wide range of possibilities for fusing. In this class we will discuss the reasons to consider sandblasting a fused piece along with the applications and effects. Students will learn how to properly and effectively sandblast glass while creating several fused pieces. Find out how to further finish a sandblasted project. See examples of textural and visual effects that sandblasting makes possible, such as: surface treatmens, carving, and creating patterns in iridized glasses. All materials are included. Some previous fusing experience is recommended. Students may bring a previously fused piece to class for sandblasting.
Safety: Please do not wear sandals if cutting or handling glass. Safety glasses must be worn during class, provided if needed.
Tools & Materials Included: An outline and printed fusing schedules will be provided. Use of our sandblaster. Fusible glass and sandblasting materials. Glass cutting and breaking tools will be available for use.
Additional Tools & Materials: Students may want to bring their own cutting and breaking tools.
Pen/paper for notes.
