Experience Required: Some mosaic and glass cutting experience recommended but not required.
Type of Class: Demonstration, lecture, and hands-on projects
Class Description: Students will work on a small hanging panel while learning techniques for architectural application. Students will have the opportunity to work on a portable sized panel – either using the direct method or the indirect method. Roy will also introduce students to the “direct mesh” method – an exciting combination of the best features of these two traditional techniques.
Learn the tools & techniques for larger format architectural applications; both interior and exterior work, and high humidity applications, such as shower stalls. Class includes in - depth information on adhesives and a variety of materials – glass, smalti, tiles and more. Class demonstrations include various cutting techniques for transforming sheet glass into mosaic tesserae.
Safety: Safety glasses are required when cutting glass and other mosaic material; glasses will be provided in class.
Tools & Materials Included: All materials, wood substrate and use of tools provided.
Additional Tools & Materials: Optional – Your own glass cutting/breaking tools, mosaic nippers and safety glasses.
