Follow along as Roy shows you tips and techniques for soldering like a pro. Get all of your soldering questions answered in this live 2 1/2 hour class.
Learn the basics of beautiful, uniform, and fast solder work in this informative class. Different soldering irons, fluxes, and various solder formulas will also be covered.
Students will need to register with Zoom.
Students will be emailed a link to the class a few hours before class time on the day of the class. Students will be allowed to enter the virtual classroom 15 minutes before the class start time.
Pros : It was great to be able to watch and ask questions as the instructor went along.
His knowledge of the products made it much easier to be able to decide what I need to get started.
Books are great but I think being able to see and communicate in real time is so much better.
I think it may be even better than being there in person because the visual is full screen, and up close where in a class there may be a lot of people around and your vision may be blocked by some.
Cons : I don't know any except for a brief loss of internet connection on the instructors side.
Pros : Makes expertise of Delphi instructors available to people who cannot travel to take in person classes
Use of close up cameras make it easy for distance learners to follow what the instructor is doing

Pros : This was the perfect class for me as I have been away from my SG studio for almost 10 years. Now that I'm getting back into the craft, I thought it best to take a soldering refresher course. I wasn't disappointed in the least. The class also benefited me with all-encompassing lessons with regards to irons, tips, safety, solders, flux, patina, & cleaning. I highly recommend this course not only for newbies but also folks who have been at it for years. This course was so awe inspiring & thorough that I won't hesitate to take more classes from Delphi.

Pros : Casual, welcoming personality and format. Very helpful video demonstrations. Good information on types and uses of various irons, solders, and fluxes. I like that viewers could email questions and have them answered immediately during the video.

Cons : I would have preferred less chatter. For instance, Roy told us several times that he is impatient. That information is not helpful.
Some information was stated multiple times. Better organization might have minimized this.
To complete the whole process, I would have liked to hear information and see video, even briefly, on using patina.
Pros : What a great class. Roy is such an approachable, relatable instructor. I have been doing stained glass without any formal instruction for years now. I learned so much useful information on techniques, tools, solder, all of it. Can't wait to get into my shop and put it all to use. 2 hours well spent.
Pros : Very well done, I picked up new techniques and practices. Appreciate the lessons on safety and the content around solder types and foil sizes. Class was great!
Pros : This class was super informative and in most cases, answered lingering questions I have had about soldering before I was even able to ask them. I appreciated the different camera angles to really get into the details. Loved the informal nature and the ability to freely ask questions and interact. I now feel so much more confident in my soldering approach and am excited to start my next project with this knowledge in my arsenal. I'm so looking forward to more classes!
Cons : Technical difficulties rendered no recording of the class, but I am a dedicated note taker so I wasn't really bothered as I wrote down everything I wanted to remember and we were also provided legacy classes if needed.
Other Thoughts : I think the instructor assumed we'd be annoyed by product recommendations and that it might come off too "salesy" but I really appreciated that and definitely have a few new items on my shopping and wish lists! I also appreciated the troubleshooting aspects of instruction as we all know, things do not always go perfectly or according to plan.
Pros : Roy was obviously knowledgeable and easy to follow. Many of the participants' questions were handled in the online thread. Roy did a great job offering tips and solutions for issues often faced. The overall presentation was handled well and flowed easily. The young lady assisting him was a definite plus and helped immensely to keep the content flowing.
Cons : Time ran a little tight due to the broad subject matter and multitude of questions the group had. The questions were valid so glad we could ask them, but I emailed a question directly to Roy's email regarding lead free soldering and the appropriate tip size.
Other Thoughts : Would love to get a recording of the call if that is offered so I can revisit areas specific to my projects. I look forward to future Zoom calls on other stained glass topics. I live in MT and the long winters are great for doing stained glass projects. Tips and solutions are welcome and it's great that Delphi offers these services.
Pros : This was a very informative and fun class! Roy provides so much information, tips and tricks, and general ideas on how to improve glass projects. Flipping back and forth between the two cameras (thanks, Isabelle) enhanced the viewing of details. Please offer more classes like this!
Pros : I found this class engaging from beginning to end. I have been doing glasswork for a decade or more, but there is always more to learn, even with the most mundane parts of the process. I loved being able to ask questions along the way, and having access to the video afterwards is a real plus.

Other Thoughts : I’ve been doing stained and fused glass for several years but my soldering has never been up to par. I learned a lot about what I’m doing wrong and how to fix it with this class. Now I just have to practice! The time went quickly and the price was very manageable. Thanks Roy and Kari (sp?)!
Pros : Excellent class - learned a lot! I started out several years ago using lead came exclusively, and in the last few months decided to try copper foil. My soldering skills were lacking so I’ve been watching hours of videos online. This class helped a lot with lots of “how to” info, but also background info - I.e. “why” you should do / not do something both about soldering, tools, solder properties, patina, etc.
Cons : Too much safety info upfront. Ate into class time. Could you just email a Safety Recommendations sheet or separate video to attendees when you send the class link? It would allow the class time to be better spent on primary subject. Class could easily be two hours long and stay interesting.
Other Thoughts : Loved the fact that two cameras were used and they zoomed out or in as needed. Made the class much more informative. Also loved the chat function so attendees could ask questions real-time and get responses immediately.
Roy and Katie (? - can’t remember name of person filming!) did a great job!
Pros : What an easy review to write. I learned so vey much in this class - as a beginner - I took away lots of proper soldering techniques and tips. Looking forward to learning from future classes. Thank You
Pros : I have been creating Stained Glass art for year and a half and I find soldering to be the hardest part to master. I learned many points answered that I had questions about. In particular, I will try using 50/50 to fill in gaps on my current project. It is about150 pieces of glass, and surel,y there will be some gaps when I go to solder. Also, I did not know that I could use Kwik-Clean to remove flux when I didn't want to move the piece.
I also liked how Roy demonstrated moving the piece to work at 90 degree angles to get a good, even bead. I think working at a slower more consistent rate will help me achieve better results.
I enjoyed the entire presentation and would sign up for future Zoom courses. Thank you Roy for a great presentation. You were informative and enjoyable to watch.

Other Thoughts : This is the first course I have taken in Stained Glass. Since I started my Stained Glass journey, I have been using books and You Tube presentations and, of course, lots of hours of practice. Delphi Glass has been my resource for my glass and all of my supplies since I began this adventure.
I would definitely sign up for other Zoom classes presented by Delphi and Roy. Thank you.
Pros : Class was well taught in a simple, easy to follow way. I like that all areas were covered like soldering guns and patina The instructor answered questions from the participants as he went along. All in all for me it was a great review class.
Pros : - Useful information about equipment, materials, temperatures, how to fill in large gaps.
- Zoom format allowed participants to see the soldering from a close-up viewpoint which would not have been possible in a class setting
- Questions arose about the explanation being given at the time and were answered promptly. This is better than having a Q&A at the end, and rather than interrupt the flow of the class it provided additional information.
- Appreciated that there was time to cover cleaning and patina at the end
Cons : While this is a soldering class, it could be useful to include tips on what we can do (if anything) at the foiling stage to ensure more consistent solder seams and generally make the soldering process go more smoothly.
Other Thoughts : Highly recommended for anyone who struggles to create nice, consistent, smooth solder seams
Appreciated receiving a recording of the class later the same day. Even though it is only available for a week watching it again at my leisure I have already picked up information that I missed the first time.

Pros : Helped me so much. Just knowing to let an area filled with solder cool before going over it again and how to stop bleed through. Also great info about solder and iron temperatures that I didn't know. Fantastic class with a great and knowledgeable instructor.
Pros : I loved the amount of detail, and as others have said, the camera work and close ups were great. I've watched a million YouTube tutorials and they never seem to really show the soldering technique up close. I hope Delphi continues to offer zoom classes indefinitely.
Cons : Would like to have a recording to review.
Other Thoughts : Would love to see information on patina but understand there is only so much time during the zoom session. A separate class on patina would be great. Also a class on hobby came!
