Glass Sculpting - Jellyfish Class Details

Glass Sculpting - Jellyfish

50 star rating (2 reviews)
One Day Only:

Where:  Delphi's Lansing Creativity Center

When:  5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Create your own glass jellyfish while working out of Delphi's "Double Dragon" furnace in this traditional sculpting glass class. Learn the basics of this ancient art form through hands on experience with authentic tools and equipment. Students will complete one (1) unique jellyfish when working personally with an instructor. Class always begins with verbal safety instruction, followed by a live demonstration. When it comes to making your piece, students can participate as much as they feel comfortable! We have a variety of frit (crushed up glass) to choose from to personalize your color combination. Length of class is approximate and depends on the number of participants. Those that finish first are welcome to stay and watch the rest of the participants, or depart.

Your creation needs to be annealed (cooled down slowly) in a kiln, and will be available for pick up the following day, or can be shipped for a small fee.

Safety glasses are mandatory and will be provided. Please do NOT wear open toed shoes or sandals.

The following are recommendations, but not required to participate in class:
Long pants, and a long sleeve shirt can help shield from heat.
Natural fiber clothes are best (cotton, linen, etc.)
Hair that can obstruct your view is encouraged to be tied back.
Students are advised to bring their own water, however cold bottled water will be provided.
Pictures and videos are encouraged.

This project does not require blowing the glass. Please see our other glassblowing class offerings if you are interested in learning the glassblowing technique.

Pros : Excellent instructors! Great hands on experience and fun piece to complete.
Cons : I am an hour away and will have to make another trip to pick up my piece - much better than trying to handle a 900 degree object tho!
Other Thoughts : Can’t say enough good about the instructors for this - great way to try this facet of glasswork.

Pros : Instructors are there with you every step of the way. They will do as little or as much as you'd like which is great for anyone unsure of themselves.
