  • Metallic finish glass for stained glass and mosaic projects
  • Backing does not chip off when cutting or nipping
  • 12" x 12" size

Product Description

Create with this stunningly different glass! Van Gogh features a smooth front surface and a gently textured reverse side that is coated with gorgeous color and sparkle. The durable coating will not chip when cutting and provides excellent opacity for making mosaics, stained glass boxes and more. All Van Gogh glass is handmade, which means actual glass may vary slightly from photo. Sold in 12" x 12" pieces.

Technical Information: Van Gogh glass is for use in stained glass and mosaics. Not recommended for backlit projects such as lamps and windows. Glass is not for use in kilns because it is both painted and silvered. Do not submerge or use harsh cleaners as it will damage the colored coating. Be mindful while grinding as a coarse bit may chip the backing. For best results use a fine grit grinder bit and gentle pressure. Mirror sealant can be applied to help protect the coating.

Mosaic vase and vanity projects created by artist and Delphi guest instructor Tom Snyder. Mosaic rose table by artist Keturah Esch. Stained glass checker board created by artist Michael Johnson. From "40 Great Stained Glass Projects" book #6324.

  •   Excellent for mosaics

Pros : I love this glass. I find that if you are careful when you cut and break the glass that there are really very few problems with the backing chipping. I use it in mosaic projects only, and I score it into tiny pieces. The backing combined with the clear glass on top gives it depth.
Cons : None really.
Other Thoughts : I would not use it with a grinder or in windows.

Pros : unique foil pattern.
Cons : I can't really recomend this glass to anyone. The color is in the foil laminated to clear glass. It has to be handled very gently. the foil is very easy to scrape off and has to be ground and cut with a saw with the glass down. I was very disappointed with the glass.

  •   Rich Looking Glass

Pros : Van Gogh is a specialty glass to say the least. I used it for mosaic work as well as foil and solder. It produces a beautiful project either way especially with light behind it. It is also easy to cut. No matching due to the random pattern.
Cons : Lovely glass but takes a lot of extra work due to the thin backing. It is like working with mirror glass. The black backing chips and scratches badly when grinding. Must be sealed for lead or foil and solder work.
Other Thoughts : I will probably use Van Gogh again due to the uniqueness of the glass even though it is somewhat of a pain to work with.

Thank you to everyone who entered our Art Glass Fairytale contest. Im continually amazed at the creativity of our customers - I had no idea our artists were writers too. It was very difficult choosing a winner for the Fused Glass grab bag. Many of you shared personal stories of hardship or tragedy and how you overcame them through glass. Thank you for inspring us. Congratulations go to Jude Wilder-Roberts for her tale of Uroboros and the Very First Rainbow. You can read her story below. We may also be featuring other entries in future blog posts or catalogs - so stay tuned. Once upon a time in a dreary, colorless land lived a girl named Uroboros. Since there were no colors in the town of Youghiogheny, where she lived, everyone was sad. One day while collecting drift wood on Kokomo beach, Uro found a piece of beach glass. The

Sometimes when we’re creating glass art, we have an idea and we go for it. Other times, we look around us to find inspiration that speaks to our soul. That inspiration can come from looking out the window and spying a beautiful natural scene. It can come from an experience and the depiction of our feelings about it. It can also come from looking at famous artwork. When we use great works of art to inspire our creativity in glass art, it allows us to incorporate something particularly stunning into our own translations of it. At Delphi Glass, we often see submissions in our Delphi Glass Artist Gallery of glass art that is inspired by great works like Van Gogh’s Starry Night or Sunflowers, Waterlilies by Monet, Munch’s The Scream, and The Kiss and The Tree of Life by Klimt.
