Pros : This has been extremely helpful cutting straight lines and getting perfect angles. It's been extremely helpful to me as a beginner in holding the glass in place and being able to provide consistent pressure while cutting.

  •   Game changer for cutting
By on
Pros : This was a game changer for me with angle and straight line cutting. So easy to use and accurate. This tool has helped me decrease my cutting glass time by more than 60%. Also has helped me to reduce grinding time as the angles are perfect.
Cons : I don't see anything negative about this great tool.
Other Thoughts : I wish I would have bought this tool set 15 years ago when I first started cutting glass.

  •   newbie to Leaded glass
By on
Pros : I'm a cabinet maker who had to make leaded glass mission style panels. Geometric by design with similar dimensions. 60 pieces each door panel. As this was a one time request from a client, I didn't want to invest in hundreds of dollars in tools, and was trying to keep it simple and cheap. I'm always looking for a new skill to add to my repertoire, and leaded glass was one of them. After contemplating the number of cuts, I splurged and bought this system, and really glad I did. My panels came out BEAUTIFULLY!!!! 4 identical panels, thanks to this system. My soldering technique??? Well, the 4th panel looks the best. Directions do stink, but this is not Rocket Surgery. While I still don't know what I'm doing, this tool certainly makes me appear like I know what I'm doing. I still have thousands of questions regarding stained glass, but not about this system. It's worth it. There are no cons.

  •   Complete Beetle Bits
By on
Pros : I debated for a long time on what system I wanted. This went on sale enough to cover the S&H. I really like it. Yes, as some other reviewers have mentioned the directions are not great. I am mechanically inclined, so I found it easy to figure out. It's well made. Making repeat cuts is great. So much faster and more accurate.
Cons : Easily rectified issue is that w/ the four grids it takes up a lot of space. When I was cutting smaller pieces the ruler and tracking arm length was an issue when I used only two grids. Delphi didn't carry the shorter track bar and ruler that go with the smaller set for separate purchase, but I found them elsewhere.
Other Thoughts : This is fabulous if you have to cut large pieces of glass. If you primarily work on smaller pieces, then space wise I would recommend the Mini Beetle Bits system. Same quality and components but with just 2 grids and the shorter bar and ruler.

  •   great for precision cutting
By on
Pros : This system is great for geometric shapes and identical size strips, squares, etc. The angle tools and the protractor make triangles and diamonds incredibly easy. I have had other cutting systems for strips and angles but this is the best one I have ever used. Still getting used to the Flying Beetle cutter but it does speed things up and reduces the chances of bad cuts and mistakes. The Delphi online tutorial was a great help in setting it up and getting me started. It was clear, brief and to the point.
Cons : The printed instructions are not very clear and printed in a very amateur, photocopied looking document.
Other Thoughts : I would love to see a circle cutter for this system. It is great for the beginner through advanced glass artist. It would have saved me time, frustration and a lot of money in wasted glass when I was a beginner.

  •   Love it!
By on
Pros : Easy to set up, simple instructions. Can't wait to use it to make beautiful geometric pieces!
Cons : seems like it could be a bit inexact if you're not careful to lock everything down.
Other Thoughts : I had a hard time choosing between this and other systems. I'm glad I got it!

  •   confusing
By on
Pros : not sure yet
Cons : instructions are clear as mud
Other Thoughts : I just received the beetle bits system for Christmas, the instructions make NO sense, NONE, could they be any more vague? I kind of got it set up, gave up reading the instructions and just looked at the picture. Then went to put the cutting tool on, and it said I have to adjust the screw that controls the height of the cutting wheel, it fails to tell you what height to put it at, or what I can use to reference the correct height, so I am now afraid to even use it for fear of damaging the cutting head, and or the ruler. Also, am I suppose to pull the cutter towards me, or away from me, does it matter? Is there any way to break the glass using something with this system or am I suppose to use my running pliers? also, does anyone know of a video that would make any of this clearer? Anyway, any help I can get would be great. Thanks

  •   Good stuff
By on
Pros : This is a good cutting system. It is versatile. It is easy to cart around since it breaks down into pieces.
Cons : I agree with the statement "the cutter bit keeps falling out of the holder and there doesn't seem to be any way of locking it into the holder."
Other Thoughts : I would recommend buying it.

  •   Complete Beetle Bits System
By on
Pros : It's good to learn how to cut glass without but, it's great to have the Beetle System. The only reason I didn't get it when I started was a friend had one and I wanted to be sure I was going to like glass fusing. I do and I now have my own Beetle. It's a "must have".
Cons : There may be one but I don't know it yet.

  •   The Best
By on
Pros : I love this system. You do have to learn this system but once you do it is well worth it. It is very simple to learn. I just love this because of the cutter being built in and the way it glides along the bar. You can't miss. The angles are also simple because there is no math or guessing. Now there is a new ruler that is inches on one side and metric on the other, Thank you for that.
Cons : I do not have any cons on this system. I just love it.

  •   good idea-poor execution
By on
Pros : This has the potential for allowing you to make sure, repetitive cuts. It's probably a good idea if you're cutting larger - ie 2" - pieces, but for use in cutting glass for fused glass jewelry - ie 1/2" - pieces, the jury is still out.
Cons : The instruction book is abysmal. I defy you to follow this book and set up the beetle bit set. However, a little patience and some common sense and, I think, you can make it work. I am particularly frustrated by the cutting piece. There are NO instructions for this and the set-up of the item, as delivered, is not intuitive. There's a screw that could be an adjustment screw for accommodating glass of different thicknesses, but who knows. No instructions on whether the cutter needs to be oiled and, if so, how often. No information on when, if ever, the cutter needs to be replaced. No information on where you'd get replacement cutting bits. By the way the cutter bit keeps falling out of the holder and there doesn't seem to be any way of locking it into the holder. There's a little wire thingie on the side of the cutter apparatus which must have some purpose, but, again, who knows.
Other Thoughts : This "system" reminds me of the mat cutters used in picture framing. You position the glass to be cut against a stop and slide a blade which scores the glass. You then use running pliers to break the glass. Great idea! However, I bought it cutting small - 1/2" - squares and, because I haven't yet been able to get it set up (see "Cons:" I'm not sure it's going to be useful. Not quite ready to try to return it, but I'm close.

  •   Easy to use system
By on
Pros : This measuring and cutting system is easy to use. I mastered a couple of different kinds of cuts in just a few minutes. I haven't tried more complex cuts yet, but the instructions to do them seem very straightforward. The flying beetle cutter is easy to use and makes cutting strips of glass a breeze. I like the fact that the waffle grid system comes apart so that you can move it out of the way quickly or only use a portion of it for small projects.
Cons : None that I have yet discovered.

Cons : I haven't found any.

  •   I love it!
By on
Pros : I do a lot of strip piecing and this helps on 2 fronts. First, the perfect angle of the cutter minimizes the proportion of broken strips. Second, when I spend HOURS cutting strips with a hand-held glass cutter, my hand starts aching. With this cutter, I can use either hand to slide the cutter. No more aches!
Cons : I have two issues with the ruler: 1. getting the zero point on the ruler right is sometimes a challenge. That's a big deal with some of the precision cutting I do. 2. the ruler will sometimes rotate around -- I've stopped that by putting the oil holder against the far end of the ruler to hold it in place.

  •   Beetle Bits System
By on
Pros : Great for repetitive cuts, consistent score angle, overall well built.
Cons : The protractor will get you close but I found it's best to double check your settings (i.e. 45 degrees) with something more accurate to make sure you're getting the angle you really want. I also had to clean glass chips out of the carrier so the cutter would move up and down freely, but both of these are minor distractions, great product!

  •   Even I, the idiot can use this
By on
Pros : Easy to put together. I have zero experience cutting glass, and wow! this was easy! I first cut too deep but on my second try, I went from amateur to pro. Okay, maybe not pro but it was easy. Thank goodness because I don't follow instructions very well...lol.
Cons : Husband was mad because I ran out of glass the first night and it was too late to go get more and he was annoyed because I wanted to use the fish tank or one of the upstairs windows so I could feed my new addiction. Actually the only con is I have a heck of a time adjusting that little screw when going between thick glass and thin glass but maybe I just haven't got a knack for that.
Other Thoughts : I can't wait to get started on trying to cut other things than squares but that is all I really need right now but who knows what will happen next week!...Is it possible to build a house out of glass? tee hee

  •   Exceptional!
By on
Pros : My top three: First is the sound of the perfect score achieved in my glass each and every time. Second is the time I save when making multiple shapes, such as diamonds for stars--a bonus is the diamonds have perfect points, fit perfectly together and none if minimal grinding required! Third, there is absolutely no strain on my hands and wrist when scoring with the Beetle Bits Cutter.
Cons : How about adding a smaller soft or hard case to store the pieces and parts.
Other Thoughts : It is well worth the price. I have already made up my purchase by saving a lot of glass from breaking. My next purchase will be the circle cutting system.

  •   Love Beetle Bits
By on
Pros : I think this is a wonderful tool. It makes it so easy to make straight and precise cuts. I wish I had bought this system years ago.
Cons : Even though it came with a template for diamond shapes, it took some trial and error on my part. It could just be me though. :)

  •   I love it!
By on
Pros : It was very simple to set up and use. I love that you have a place for glass cutter oil and it's a great measurement tool. It is really easy to do angles as well. The board sets up in 4 parts so it is easy to dump the glass bits.
Cons : I honestly can't think of a negative.
