History of Glass Art

Ever wonder how glass art came to be? This crash course covers the history of glass art techniques spanning from 2500 BCE to today. Students learn about notable artists, works, technological developments, and cultural shifts that shaped the history of this fragile, yet perservering, art form and how we've landed in the current golden age of glass art. Topics discussed include the world's first stained glass window, Greek and Roman mosics, Venetian glassblowing, the rise (and fall) of modern manufacturers, and more. As an introductory course, content focuses on geographic and stylistic breadth and is not intended to cover all topics in-depth.

The 2.5 hours includes 2 hours of interactive lecture, a 15 minute quiz game, and a 15 minute group discussion.

Students may want to bring a pen and notepad for note taking.
