Let There Be Light! with Joseph Cavalieri

Type of Class: Lecture, demonstration and hands-on
Class Description: New York glass artist Joseph Cavalieri is excited to be teaching this technique driven workshop covering different processes.
This class encompasses all aspects of making a stainedglass panel, from design and production, to mounting the
work in a 12-by-12-inch frame illuminated with LED lighting.
Many samples will be made in class, and one frame with LED lights will be provided to each student to professionally hang their artwork. You don’t need to be an expert painter, we will be tracing images in the class.
Techniques covered include painting, pen-and-ink drawing, atomizing and air-brushing, sand-blasting, silk-screen printing using screens the instructor will bring, copper foiling, soldering, mounting and lighting.
Enamels are painted then kiln fired onto the surface of the glass, then the glass is soldered together. The choice
of imagery is totally up to the students imagination.
Safety: Please do not wear open toed shoes or sandals when cutting glass.
Safety glasses must be worn, glasses are provided in class if needed.
Tools & Materials Included: All materials are included. Along with a professional looking 12" x 12" deep black frame with LED lighting (over $60 value).
Additional Tools & Materials: Students may want to bring their own glass cutter, breaking pliers, soldering tools and safety glasses. Delphi will have these tools available for use.
Students should bring inspirational resources such as sketches or found images. Design can be based on a
favorite fable, book, movie or themes of past work students would like to continue in glass.
Joseph Cavalieri is an artist and educator living in New York City. During the last ten years Joseph has taught over sixty stained glass classes in domestic and international locations. He has attended fifteen art residencies, has exhibited internationally, and has produced many private and public art commissions including a MTA Arts for Transit public art installation at the Philipse Manor Station, NY.

Learn how to cut art glass in this online Zoom class. Follow along as Roy shows you simple techniques for cutting glass like a pro. Get your questions answered during this 2 hour live class presentation.
Class will include discussions about different glass types and manufacturers and the best approach for cutting these different glass styles. Demonstrations will include using “pencil shaped” cutters, and how to use other popular types of cutters, including the pistol grip and Thompson grip cutters. Roy will show how to cut several different types of art glass along with cutting glass from a pattern.
Students will need to register with Zoom.
Students will be emailed a link to the class a few hours before class time on the day of the class. Students will be allowed to enter the virtual classroom 15 minutes before the class start time.

Type of Class: Demonstration and hands-on project
Class Description: Come explore the reactive capabilities of fusible glasses. Discover the fun and creative possibilities of fusing glasses that produce interesting effects by chemical reactions. While fusing in a kiln the chemicals that help give the glass it’s color can react with certain chemicals in other glasses. This reaction occurs at the interface of where the glasses meet. This class will help you figure out which glasses react with other glasses and how to use this information to enhance your work. The knowledge gained is also valuable if you are trying to avoid the accidental reaction that can ruin a piece. We know nothing is worse than an unwanted surprise. Students will have an opportunity to work with a variety of reactive glasses and create sample tiles to keep for further reference. Firing schedules and related topics will also be covered.

Making custom glass ornaments is easy with Glaskolben pre-blown clear glass cylinders with blow pipe ends. These ornaments will look reminiscent of traditional European artisans. Students will use a Hot Head torch and MAPP gas to create several ornaments. Use 90 COE frits and stringers to customize your holiday colors. No previous experience needed. 3-Day Dolphin in a Bubble with Steve Scherer

Create a stunning blown glass sphere with a dolphin inside with flameworking artist Steve Scherer.
Working with borosilicate glass, students will learn to form a dolphin figure working with solid rods on a torch. Steve will demo making a dolphin while discussing techniques and showing the sequences to add features. Students will then create their own dolphin with the guidence from Steve.
Day two will include learning how to pull points and executing a sphere. Students will have the opportunity to start with a smaller sphere and work up to a larger size. Students will come away with the knowledge of how to execute a sphere.
The final session will include putting the figure into the sphere. Students will have the opportunity to observe the process as each person assembles their sphere under Steve's direct supervision.
All skill levels are welcomed, from beginners to well advanced students.

Create your own unique glass pumpkin in this traditional glass blowing class. Students will learn the basics of glass blowing while making their own pumpkin. Students will be taught about safety, working with glass blowing equipment and tools, while working with Delphi's "Double Dragon" furnace.
