Create your own glass pumpkin while working out of Delphi's "Double Dragon" furnace in this traditional glass blowing class. Learn the basics of this ancient art form through hands on experience with authentic tools and equipment. Students will complete one (1) unique pumpkin when working personally with an instructor. Class always begins with verbal safety instruction, followed by a live demonstration. When it comes to making your piece, students can participate as much as they feel comfortable! We have a variety of frit (crushed up glass) to choose from to personalize your color combination. Length of class is approximate and depends on the number of participants. Those that finish first are welcome to stay and watch the rest of the participants, or depart.
Your creation needs to be annealed (cooled down slowly) in a kiln, and will be available for pick up the following day, or can be shipped for a small fee.
Safety glasses are mandatory and will be provided. Please do NOT wear open toed shoes or sandals.
The following are recommendations, but not required to participate in class:
Long pants, and a long sleeve shirt can help shield from heat.
Natural fiber clothes are best (cotton, linen, etc.)
Hair that can obstruct your view is encouraged to be tied back.
Students are advised to bring their own water, however cold bottled water will be provided.
Pictures and videos are encouraged.
Pros : I signed my son and his Grandpa up for the glass blowing class as a Christmas gift. They both shared that they had an awesome class and instructors. The piece of art they created was one of a kind!! This experience shaped a beautiful memory for the both of them. They are both eager to try another class soon!
Pros : Isabelle and Roy were fantastic instructors. They were right by your side every step of the way. I had trouble blowing enough air ,I have asthma. But Roy worked and worked with me so I could make a pumpkin I could be proud of.
I recommend this class for anyone who has ever wanted to try it.
Cons : Not really a con but...The teen boy in the class, put us all to shame, he nailed it the first time.
Other Thoughts : Please offer more classes, especially ornaments.
Pros : Isabelle and Roy were great instructors! They were very informative and helped me yet let me do as much as I was comfortable with! I was able to create a beautiful pumpkin. I learned a ton and had a fabulous class! Highly recommend! I will be back!
Cons : None.
Other Thoughts : I look forward to doing more classes here!
Pros : This class was a ton of fun! The class size was 6 people and we had two very qualified instructors. They work with you one on one. No rushing, just teaching and learning and helpful instruction the whole way through! I can’t wait to sign up for another class!
Cons : I can’t think of anything that was negative.
Other Thoughts : Wear a short sleeved shirt. Delphi provides Kevlar arm sleeves to protect you from the heat of the furnace they were easier to put on without having long sleeves
It does get warm - so dress in layers
Pros : Isabelle and Roy were very informative and encouraging. Very helpful throughout the entire process. Loved that we could do as much or as little as we were comfortable with. It was nice that all 6 of us knew each other which made it more fun.
Cons : Class went almost 3 hours which really wasn't a con, but it took much longer than expected.
Other Thoughts : We may be back for a private class to make more pumpkins now that we are pros, lol!
Pros : Great Instructors! They were patient and walked you through each step before you started, before you were about to do something, and during. This helped a lot. The class was very informal, yet instructional and well managed; it was a good mix.
If you are on the fence about taking this class, juts do it. It's great!
Cons : You can't see your finished product before you leave! Understandably so as it has to cool down and finish it's annealing process, but it's torture. Haha : )
There is the potential to have a lot of down time. Only 2-3 people can be working at once, which means if there are more people than that in your class some will have to observe from a far while other work. I liked this as it helped me get more comfortable with the process. This isn't a con for me, but may be for others if they are not expecting it.
Other Thoughts : This course is a bit more advanced than the others. If its your first time glassblowing, I recommend starting with the ornament or bowl. I was glad I had taken the glassblowing bowl class prior to doing this one. A first-timer can certainly do this one, but the transition is easier if you start with a simpler project.
Pros : Instructors were so informative, patient, and helpful! Variety of colors to choose from was excellent!
Cons : none
Other Thoughts : We can't wait to take another one of Delphi's glass classes! This was such a fun learning experience, and we loved how hands-on we were able to be while making our blown glass pumpkins! Thank you!!
Pros : It was a great experience! Fun, with really nice and fun instructors! Loved the small class size. It’s a fun one time class.
Cons : I would have enjoyed putting the stem on the pumpkin. A bit sad we had to let the instructor do that part. But I understand that it could be dangerous for a first time glass worker.
Other Thoughts : I’d love to do some other projects besides the ornaments. The heart paperweight looks fun.
