Carole Lago Flo-saic Art Glass's Profile
Bio
I am a self-taught glass artist – having pretty much retired after 20+ years from the graphic arts field. I have been experimenting with different mediums from as far back as I can remember. . . reserving glass into one of those revered compartments that I would get to “one of these days”.
My first attempts left me very unfulfilled and disillusioned. I was devastated that my first love, although unrequited, was not what I expected. There were too many rules, and for me it was like coloring within the black lines of a coloring book. I was heart broken, I had put glass on a pedestal and it toppled over and shattered.
Conditionally, I picked up my glass again a few years later, to give it another try. This resurrected medium had answered an unasked appeal, as shortly after that, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My work had now evolved as a self-therapy of sorts while undergoing treatment. It provided an outlet that transported me from a self-pity mentality to a place of beauty. The ability to create beauty and light during what could have been a very dark time had given me an abundance of peace and comfort.
Who am I now? The simple answer is that I am an artist who makes pieces of glass come alive.
Individually, they are what they are, pieces of glass. Beautifully colored, and uniquely different pieces of a rainbow. I cut, grind, fit and re-fit and that singular piece of glass now joins with others to become a symphony of color and light. What melody that symphony plays, in part, is up to you and how you interpret their message. My pieces are here to make you stop, reflect (no pun intended), go inward, burst outward, relax, stimulate, and be at peace.
I named this unique process “flo-saic™” glass art, melding the fluid and mosaic qualities of my pieces. The compositions come alive with light, whether in sun, or incandescent reflections. These patterns are composed in laying down small pieces of glass, mirrors, and, in some cases, even small beads or cabochons.
My work has been displayed, admired, contemplated and has won awards. Look at the pieces and drift off in that familiar memory that is contained in it or let the piece take you somewhere you haven’t been before. One thing for sure, you will always remember where your piece has taken you. Enjoy your trip
