Bbrownson Studios's Profile
Bio
Barb Brownson has practiced art making her entire life; first as a child, then while practicing her career as a high school art educator, and now as an independent artist. Her primary media include soda-lime glass beadmaking and jewelry, as well as alternative photographic processes on fabric. She studied photography and printmaking at Southern Methodist University in Dallas Texas where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Her education continued at Eastern Michigan University to complete a certificate in teaching. Barb attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with emphasis on studio practices and art education and completed a Masters of Arts.
A passionate, life-long learner, Barb continues to take classes at the Flint Institute of Art and other workshops around the country. Her artistic vision centers around the study of light. Through creating art objects she explores how light is reflected by and through glass as well as capturing light through photographs. Trying to hold light or the play of light on glass is a constant recurring theme in her work. How light changes our mood, aesthetics, and experience is a wonderful exploration and pursuit that she continues to get excited about through her art making.
