Class Description: Stained glass has once again become popular. Of course that's why you're here. This is a great place to get started. Students will be taught the basic copper foil method, including safety, types of glass, patterns, cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, cleaning, patinas, and framing. Everything you'll need to know to carry on this fabulous art form.
NOTE: You are encouraged to select your glass before the day of class. There will be limited time in class to select glass if you are unable to come to Delphi beforehand. There are four patterns to choose from, when you come to our Creativity Center, see an associate to pick out your pattern. Then they will guide you through the showroom to appropriate brands and styles for this class.
There is an optional lunch break, you may want to bring a snack/lunch or go out to get lunch.
Safety: Not to fear, glass is safe, however we do have a few safety procedures to ensure this:
Closed toed shoes are recommended when cutting or handling glass.
Safety glasses should be worn during class. Glasses will be provided if necessary.
It is not recommended to work with solder or lead if you are pregnant.

Pros : The instructor, Roy, did a really nice job. Easy going, gave us a bit of history on the art, and taught us great techniques. I have taken a couple of classes on stain glass before but my daughter was new to stain glass and we both really enjoyed and got something new out of it!
Pros : I loved all of the instruction around the names of the tools, and especially the "why" on each step. The instructor (Roy) was fun and helpful, and picking out glass was a fun opportunity. The handout at the end of class is invaluable, too.
Cons : I live in Chicago so I'll have to plan ahead for future classes (!)
Other Thoughts : I took this class hoping to incorporate glass elements into my weaving pieces (wall hangings and window macrame pieces) and the course gave me lots of ideas but also helped me understand what I didn't know enough about yet. I will be back to learn more!
Pros : Our instructor Steena shared her decades of wisdom with the class, and kept us moving along through the many steps.
Each participant walked away with a gorgeous piece, and the knowledge to begin our own personal stained glass practice.
Cons : There is a lot of material to cover in the class, so it’s helpful if students have some cursory knowledge ahead of time. I recommend watching a few YouTube videos beforehand to begin to familiarize yourself with the process and to help minimize your risk of time consuming mistakes.
Other Thoughts : The glass selection at Delphi is mindblowing. It was a delight to have access to such incredible materials.
I highly recommend a day at Delphi!
Pros : The instructor was very knowledgeable, helpful, and taught us a lot about stained glass and some of its history. He was willing to let us try to do things on our own and if needed he would step in and give advice. A great way to teach in my opinion as a teacher myself. Definitely worth taking this class. Delphi is an amazing place with amazing staff.
Pros : Great instruction. Fun pattern options. Good glass selection.
Cons : I was progressing faster than the other students, so I did experience a bit of down time waiting for the instructor to be available to help with next steps. Having an assistant instructor could have been helpful.
Other Thoughts : I loved this class! I learned a lot, and have found a new hobby! If you are interested in getting into stained glass as a hobby, I recommend taking a class before investing in the equipment and supplies (which are not cheap), so you know if you will enjoy it. This class went over the entire process of creating a finished piece. We learned how to cut and grind the glass, solder the pieces together, finish with zinc came, and everything in between. My piece turned out pretty good considering I’ve never worked with glass before. Overall, great class! 10/10 would recommend.
Pros : Great teacher with proper size students (8).
All the tools and accessories needed for the project.
Friendly talkative group. Very comfortable working with everyone.
Cons : Wish they had a closer place to where I live (canton)
Advanced classes fill very fast
Other Thoughts : Would definitely take another class again and will be seeing them soon to buy supplies.
Pros : The class was amazing! I learned so much, especially how to improve the basics like cutting. The class was very organized and the teacher taught in a way that was easy to understand. I’m so very glad for this one day class. Thank u
Pros : The beginners Stained Glass class was fabulous! Stenna was a joy to learn from and was so patient and kind with all the students. I learned so much and had a lot of fun!
Cons : Time was very tight to get everything done, it may work better as a two day class.
Other Thoughts : I enjoyed the class, the atmosphere and the staff. I will definitely be looking at the class schedule to see what else is offered!
