Join mosaic artist Carol Shelkin as we explore the fascinating world of color value in mosaic art through demonstrations, discussion, and hands-on instruction. In this three-day workshop, you'll learn how professional mosaic artists use color, composition, design, and the movement of tesserae to create depth, light, and visual interest.
Together, we'll explore the shades, gradations, and values found in hand-nipped stained glass and discover how these choices can transform your work. You'll learn how to “paint with glass,” creating an almost realistic mosaic while developing a deeper understanding of color value and design. And remember—once you know the rules, you can break them! Creativity is encouraged, and there is plenty of room for experimentation and personal expression.
We'll also explore non-traditional mosaic andamento, introducing you to contemporary mosaic techniques that can bring movement and energy to your work. Each student will begin a mosaic suitable for interior display while learning professional techniques that can be applied to future projects.
One of my greatest joys as a teacher is helping students discover their own artistic voice. Every mosaic artist sees the world differently, and my goal is to help you develop your eye for mosaic design, refine your skills, and gain confidence in your creative decisions. Through easy-to-follow steps, you'll learn how to create a line drawing and translate it into a successful mosaic composition.
A PowerPoint presentation with photographic images will be provided for inspiration. Returning students are welcome to bring their own photograph or image for consideration. Please contact me in advance for approval.
All materials are included.
