Microwave Kiln 4 stars
By bosslady_j on December 1, 2011 - See all my reviews
Pros : I have been a fuser for ten years and swore I would never use a microwave kiln. I needed to learn how to use one for a class I was going to teach, the students from my current class helped me play and we all love it. As long as you pay attention to the heat and don't overload it it is a great little starter kiln.
Cons : The instructions need a lot of help. But I am going to play around and see what I can come up with.
Other Thoughts : This is a great way to see if the fusing bug really has a hold on you. It is fast and gives instant gratification, but like anything you need to practice. I think that most people who buy this to fuse glass will move up to a real kiln.

This kit rocks!! 5 stars
By Jillopy on March 15, 2010 - See all my reviews
Pros : Have got perfect pendants each time, even the first and I've never fused before! I got the extra fusing kit for more glass to supplement and that gives plenty to work with. Don't go at it like a bull at a gate - slow and steady gives great results. Fire for 3 mins as suggested then 30sec increments until fused how you like (1000 watt microwave).
Cons : None yet! I suspect I may outgrow the kiln size but that was the intention when getting the starter kit.
Other Thoughts : The instructions aren't that detailed but I have found a lot of info on the net. One interesting fact I only saw on one site is that fused glass wants to fuse to 1/4" high - meaning if you stack it higher it will flatten out and if you have a flatter stack it will shrink up to 1/4".

Perfect for small projects or just getting started 5 stars
By mwallek on October 7, 2009 - See all my reviews
Pros : It is simple to use and does work wonderfully! I purchased this because my big kiln broke and I had some jewelry orders to fill. Took no more than 4 minutes in the microwave with 40 minutes of cooling time to produce just what I needed. I will definitely continue to use this in the future for small projects or just making 1 or 2 pieces. I recommend using the Thinfire Shelf paper instead of what is supplied because of the rough back it creates. Thinfire definitely makes a smoother back.
Cons : Finished edges are a little rough but can use grinder to smooth them.
Other Thoughts : I recommend this for a beginner or casual hobbyist because of the inexpensive price tag. The total area is perfect for jewelry.

Lots of fun with fusing! 5 stars
By deaconfaw on September 24, 2009 - See all my reviews
Pros : I have an old 600 watt microwave that I am using with excellent results. The first firing takes about 8 minutes, but the next one is 5 or 6 minutes. I check to see if it ready by getting eye level to the kiln and lifting the top just enough to see inside. It takes a little practice to be able to tell if the piece is ready. Just be sure to take the kiln out of the microwave and place on a ceramic tile and let it cool for 30 to 40 minutes before lifting the top off. I have not had a single piece crack. I have been very pleased with the results.
Cons : If the kiln was a little larger, I could do more than one piece at a time, but I knew it was small when I ordered it.
Other Thoughts : I was so relieved that the kiln works great in a 600 watt microwave, so if you have a lower watt microwave than 1000 watts, give it a try!

It works! 5 stars
By sabaynard on May 26, 2011 - See all my reviews
Pros : I bought this to see if I wanted to invest in a glass fusing kiln. This little thing works, it's not exact you have to get used to how long to leave things in. It works and it's lots of fun. I am so glad I bought this, now I have a fusing kiln I would never have bought the kiln without starting off with this.
Cons : Really, I can't think of any.

Amazing! 5 stars
By kellyc.glass on October 18, 2010 - See all my reviews
Pros : It runs in the microwave and it only takes minutes to create pieces. Why spend more?
Cons : I didn't really like the Milefori but thats my personal taste. The gloves were abit to thin, I bought a thicker pair or I doubled up on the ones they gave when using it to check on the fusing.
Other Thoughts : Kiln came a bit rough and flaky with pieces of the outer material rubbing off. This kiln needs to mature over time. Educational Video might be deceiving. Don't open the kiln too long to take a look as the glass might fracture from within and then you have to full fuse the item all over again.

Wise Choise 4 stars
By rwayne46 on November 19, 2009 - See all my reviews
Pros : Does what it is supposed to do...it's a starter kit. Gives a good idea if I want to get any more involved with fusing. Was fun to experiment. Made a nice pendent on my 3rd attempt and wearing it getting positive comments.
Cons : Got 2 bags of Millefiori..same size.. and wonder if that was planned. There really were no cons because again, it's a starter kit.
Other Thoughts : I suggest setting the microwave time a minimum, checking the item and, if needed, add the 30 seconds until it looks good. I was not sure of the power of my microwave so I was very careful...after the first couple blobs. Good luck and have fun.

Worth the money for a newbie 4 stars
By Charity B. on July 15, 2009 - See all my reviews
Pros : Everything is provided for you. There's no getting home from the craft store and then realizing that you forgot to buy something "necessary". Incredibly fast! Three minutes in the microwave and 30 minutes to cool. I'm assuming it has to be a lower energy usage compared to a conventional kiln.
Cons : Super small firing area. Made smaller by their directions of leaving 5/8" of space between the glass and the edge. All the glass including the confetti was packaged in regular plastic bags. Be very carefull how you handle them. Those sharp edges cut right through the plastic. I would have like to see a project booklet included. Because the kiln is so small I can see the potential of outgrowing it. Maybe this isn't as much a con because I can still use it for small projects.
Other Thoughts : I was very nervous the first time I used this kiln. I never took my eyes off the microwave "just in case". I was completely shocked when I pulled the kiln out three minutes later (just like the instructions said) and had a great piece of fused glass. I am a complete beginner at this type of thing. I'm not artistically talented by any means. I think this is a really good way to introduce yourself to fused glass.

Not a Bad Way to Start 4 stars
By moonofglass on December 30, 2008 - See all my reviews
Pros : This was my very first kiln. It didn't take me long to out grow it, but it gave me a real taste of glass fusing. Even though I'm moving up to the Delphi 15x6 kiln, I will likely still use this kiln for compatibility testing. The glass that comes with the kiln is great for starting up too! I would order more shelf paper though - you will run out quickly!
Cons : It's very, very small. You can't make more than a pendant at a time. Earrings are a little better, but the kiln doesn't always heat evenly. Also, if you have an explosion (which is inevitable) glass will eat away at the kiln floor, making it difficult to fuse on.
Other Thoughts : In order to use this kiln properly, you need a microwave that heats evenly. You also need to be able to experiment. Glass will shatter and break a lot if you don't learn how to use your microwave's power settings! I cook everything for twice as long as is specified in the guide at half power.
