Skutt Firebox 8 a great studio addition 5 stars

Pros : When I was looking for a small kiln in which to fire PMC bronze clay, I bought this kiln with an extra collar to give it more depth. The digital pyrometer makes firing more controllable and precise. Tracking and adjusting the kiln's temperature so you don't 'over cook' the PMC is elementary. Even with the additional collar on the kiln, which I put on top of the bottom layer of the kiln (or under the kiln's mid-section). I simply unclamped the bottom set of clips and slipped the 2 " deep collar on. The hinged lid, which is unaffected by my inserted collar, is very effective and makes checking on your piece simple, since you don't have to find a place to set a hot lid. I would definitely recommend this kiln to any one who is looking for a small kiln. The 8 " size makes it more useful than smaller 6" kilns, and the extra depth allowed with the collar added makes this my first choice when firing smaller projects.
Cons : The only "Con" that I had found with this kiln was the depth of about 4 ". I solved this problem by purchasing a 2" collar that I inserted underneath the midsection of the kiln after undoing two clamps. That way I have a small kiln with the depth that I need to fire bronze PMC, which needs to be fired in a closed conatiner.
Other Thoughts : I have found myself relying on this kiln when I normally would have used my smaller Hot Box. I am so sold on the digital pyrometer that it makes going back to the dial indicator control more like work!

Absolutely Beyond Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 stars
By beadman3420 on April 5, 2009 - See all my reviews
Pros : Ease of use, quick and reasonable shipping costs, awesome results, did I mention easy to use???
Cons : That I didn't buy the kiln sooner
Other Thoughts : This is an absolutely AWESOME kiln. I am a beginner. The Delphi Glass Consultant worked with me to answer all of my questions and to ensure that I was buying the right kiln. It took only three days to receive. Did my first firing today. The results are incredible!!!!!! I had fun with the microwave kiln, which is a good way to start, and I plan to continue using that kiln for single quick piece work. I can't wait to go nuts with this kiln. I ordered a square mold so it looks like I will be expanding my limited ability to even more fun and interesting areas of the glass art industry. Thank You Delphi, for being so kind by answering my questions and not making me feel dumb. Also, thank you for expanding my hobby and jewelry making!
