J Speigel Biography
Glass Artist, Sculptor (1972 – )
J Speigel is an American artist with a fascination for fused glass.
She is located in Oklahoma.
J’s love of glass was inspired by her time as a docent for the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood Washington. During her time at Pilchuck, J was able to observe artists manipulating glass via glassblowing, hot casting, kiln casting, coldworking, flameworking, and fusing. She enjoyed taking a few local Seattle area classes in glassblowing and lampworking at the hobby level. After retiring J studied how to manipulate glass at the Firehouse Art Center in Norman Oklahoma. That is where she developed a love of the kiln’s transformative properties for glass. A love that moved from hobby to small business.
Nature is J’s greatest inspiration. From aurora borealis pendants to red lacework adorned sushi dishes. She chooses to create her own patterns of colored glass by cutting, grinding, layering, and torching her chosen medium in order to manipulate its form it into new patterns of light, color, and texture. The newly created patterned art glass is then fused using a kiln which fires at temperatures ranging up to 2000 degrees. The result – unique small sculptures, fidgets, and jewelry.
