Bio

After doing high fire stoneware and raku pottery for 15 years a car accident required me to change mediums. I started doing lamp work beads then fused glass. One thing lead to another and now I making dichroic glass jewelry. Glass is a wonderful medium with a deepth that draws you right into the piece. you're not only wearing the piece but you quickly interact with it's feel againist your skin. The brilliance of Dichroic glass in natural light or sunlight is truly amazing. Pictures just do not do justice to the depth and play of color. There are many challenges involved in using dichroic glass to art glass jewelry, not to mention the cost. Once a raw sheet of dichroic glass is fused, it's characteristics will change yet again the new colors shifting towards the blue end of the spectrum. The brilliant dichroic optical properties of dichroic glass are the result of multiple micro-layers of metal oxides, like gold, silver, titanium and chromium, etc. These thin layers of oxides have a total thickness of three to five millionths of an inch, and are applied to the surface of the glass in a vacuum chamber. NASA developed dichroic glass for use in satellite mirrors. Certain wavelengths of light will either pass through or be reflected, causing an array of color to be visible. Due to variations in the firing process, individual results can never be exactly reproduced; each piece of fused dichroic glass is unique and no two pieces are ever the same.
