Fuseworks Microwave Fusing Start-Up Kit - 90 COE
I have an old 600 watt microwave that I am using with excellent results. The first firing takes about 8 minutes, but the next one is 5 or 6 minutes. I check to see if it ready by getting eye level to the kiln and lifting the top just enough to see inside. It takes a little practice to be able to tell if the piece is ready. Just be sure to take the kiln out of the microwave and place on a ceramic tile and let it cool for 30 to 40 minutes before lifting the top off. I have not had a single piece crack. I have been very pleased with the results.
If the kiln was a little larger, I could do more than one piece at a time, but I knew it was small when I ordered it.
I was so relieved that the kiln works great in a 600 watt microwave, so if you have a lower watt microwave than 1000 watts, give it a try!
