Great Glass Creations's Profile
Bio
Art for me is an outlet. It is a way for me to express my feelings. I've been searching for an art form that could express my feelings for color, movement and form. I found it in glass fusion. I started taking classes about two years ago, and bought my first kiln right after the first class. I specially enjoy the fact that you always learn something different, you can never expect the very same result on your work, because every time you open the kiln the color combinations and shapes will be a little different.
Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I grew up surrounded by color and lots of art - my mother and sisters are very talented artists. Also, with a degree in Advertising, I always worked with very creative people. This too contributed to keep alight the flame of my interest in pursuing art as a creative outlet.
I love working with glass because of the ever-changing possibilities it can give you. I start every project by selecting a shape, then the colors. I cut, smash and glue the pieces of glass and then fire them on a kiln, fusing the pieces together. The result is always a little surprising, because the color combinations and shapes are almost every time a little different, some have a great pattern, some are striped, some are textured, but they are always fascinating. I usually grind, polish and fire them several times to be able to achieve the colorful, sleek and alluring piece I had envisioned, a beautiful jewelry, a functional object, like a plate or an ornamental piece.
