Mad Hatter Mixed Media's Profile
Susann Carrington has been an artist since first grade when she was scolded for designing paper furniture instead of paying attention in class. Her interest in art continued into adulthood and Susann worked in a myriad
of mediums over the years ranging from oil to printmaking prior to graduating from Ringling College of Art and Design. Previously employed as a senior graphic designer for an international communications company,
Susann now owns her own art company and continues to explore the link between fine art and dignifying commonplace, reused objects in her mixed media art sculptures. The found object mixed media sculptures, are one-of-akind originals, created by using recycled china, porcelain figurines, and other materials which were hand-selected by the artist during her many travels around the world. Many individual pieces are assembled to create the different sculptures. When creating a new piece, she allows the reclaimed objects to inspire the flow of her creativity. The Mad Hatter Mixed Media Series is inspired by the Lewis Carroll book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,
and the lyrics from White Rabbit released on Jefferson Airplane’s 1967 album, Surrealistic Pillow. The Mad Hatter series creates a whimsical representation of objects that may have been present at the psychedelic
tea party for the Red Queen of Hearts. The artist’s goal is to bring a flight-of-fancy into reality and to put a smile on everyone’s face.
