Bio
Hi, my name is Jorge L. Cruz I am an Artist and I been working with stained glass for the past 16 years most of all my project are built using the copper and foil technic which allows me for more details in my glass designs.
I fist start with a drawing of my mostly all figurines design on paper and then later copy the design into a white construction paper to be use as a temp plate to cut my pieces of glass. I try to use a selection of various texture of glass and color to create depth and contrast on my pieces. I like to use for contrast clear as well as non clear glass and various opalescent colors glass. I prefer to do various scores on the glass and then little by little nip away at the glass pieces using the glass pliers until I get close enough to the score line then I finish it off shaping the final piece with the grinder. On some of my larger pieces I like to reinforce the design by using steel line or braid wire between the length and width of the glass.
I envision my design as a piece of art work that can be transition from a window to an art work that can be frame an hang on a wall with the use of opal color glass I have been able to do just that. I like to use full sheet of glass on my project because allows me to be more selective on the pattern that's with in the glass itself.
I always strive to make my pieces, works of art, rather than “arts & crafts”. Every piece I have made starting with that first lamp shade is all originally designed by me. I try and master the beauty that I see in the great paintings by the “masters”. Much of my inspiration comes from Picasso, Frida Kahlo and Da Vinci. I am inspired by their boldness and realism and so I incorporate those qualities into my work. I love transforming my idea’s from thoughts to paper and ultimately to glass.
I have done exhibits at local Art show galleries and my designs have received various awards some of my pieces they been feature in front cover on various local news papers. I most recently open an Art Gallery Abbey Hills Gallery in Easton, PA USA. where most of my design are on display.
