Greetings, my name is Anthony and live here in Oceanside, California having moved here from Plymouth, England in 2008, and just "living my American dream."
Having taken many calligraphy courses and mastered 6 writing hands and gold leaf illumination, I thought it was time to progress on to a different and more challenging discipline, stained glass was on top of my list.
I then took evening classes once a week for 3 years, under the instruction of Mr. Ray Boundy. Ray is a very qualified, brilliant and expert tutor in stained glass.
I carried on working with stained glass until a City & Guilds of London Insitute qualification came up in 2002. This course was a Level 2 in decorative Stained Glass. The course lasted for 1 year, 1 evening a week for 3 hours.
Just before the end of the the course, all our work was exhibited for the examiner. From this I was nominated for a City & Guilds Medal of Excellence, for my exam pieces and folders of work.
I had to take samples of my work, folders and a 15 minute video to London, England. This was dropped off for the panel of judges to "get stuck into". In July of 2003 I received a letter informing me that I had been awarded a Medal for Excellence.
The Medals for Excellence are awarded annually since 1879 and rewards talented people who have displayed exceptional standards, as either a City & Guilds lecturer or candidate and whose work and ability stand out from the crowd. In 2002 only 109 medals were awarded from three quarters of a million eligible candidates.
I was then selected to represent the South West of England to be presented with my medal from HRH the Duke of Edinburgh at a special presentation at St James's Palace, London. There were only 16 places for this presentation.
From this moment I took a break from stained glass until another City & Guilds Institute of London course came up, Level 3 in Design and Decorative Stained Glass. This course lasted for 3 years, one evening a week for 3 hours.
Having completed this course I am back with the "pride and passion" of an award winning stained glass artist working from my Bright & Beautiful Stained Glass Studio here in Oceanside California.
My main area of work is with Tiffany Lamp reproductions other lamp work, case wall clocks and copper foil work.
