Suebee Handcraft Glass's Profile
Bio
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Susan Giroux-Cohen, Pepperell Massachusetts.
I am a part-time artist who mainly works with stained glass. I have been practicing the art of working with glass for many years. All of my work is of original design and handcrafted using loads of colored glass and a heap of imagination! I utilize both the Tiffany method and traditional lead came approaches.
All my formations start with various colors of stained glass that are made from silica sand, limestone and soda ash. These types of glass are highly specialized hand or machine made by Wissmach, Kokomo, Bullseye and Spectrum glass sources. I particularly like working with iridized glass where metallic salts applied to opalescent or cathedral glass create vivid mother-of-pearl colors reflecting off the glass surface.
My artworks are characterized by the use of everyday objects in a world where recognition plays an important role. I believe that the art of creating handcrafted stained glass windows is becoming a dying art – one that needs to be kept alive!
