Bio

My name is Laurie Gowland I have been creating art my whole life. As a child, for birthdays and Christmas presents I wanted art stuff so I could learn more media and get better at the media I already knew. I continue to learn more media, and push myself so my current work is always my best work. There is little that can compare with getting an idea in your head and turning it into something others can see and feel, partially when the person that commissioned the work had the same idea and you are able to make it real for them. To see the wonder and joy on someone’s face when you show them the work they had only imagined is very gratifying. I sold my first sculpture and my first pencil drawings while I was in Junior High. I learned how to cast pewter and work in stained glass while attending High School and began working in at Glazier’s Gallery stained glass studio, making and installing windows in businesses, homes and churches in the Mid-Cities area. I attended UNT and I started working in bronze.. After graduating from UNT with a BFA, I started teaching art at an Elementary school. I continue to sell sculptures, windows, drawings and murals. My most public works are a set of larger than life English Pointers and 2 flocks of 3 bobwhite quail in Denton Texas in front of a subdivision. I also made a small bronze relief of a tree frog on a calla lily that is in the Dallas Zoo. I have made windows for Churches, schools homes and businesses. Illustrating book covers is another interest of mine. I have made a glass and concrete patio in my back yard using the scarps of glass form my windows . I have painted 2 murals for my school and a number of murals in houses. I have been invited to the Kimbell and Amon Carter Art Museums to be the guest artist for lectures, demonstrations, and art classes for a number of exhibitions.
