MGM Artz's Profile
Bio
A retired nuclear power consultant, George is a scientist and engineer at heart. He has always enjoyed and appreciated art, architecture and design.
He loves to build things and likes to push the envelope using cantilevers, arches and other design elements. That is why our property includes a 32' arched wooden bridge, a spider web deck and a 30' tall lighthouse (which is the entrance to our earth sheltered, passive solar home).
In the 1960's and 70's, George learned pottery and stained glass. Wanting the color and beauty stained glass adds to a window, but unhappy with losing a good view, George used his engineering know-how to create window "overlays".
In the past few years, he has expanded his interest in glass to include fusing glass. Again, pushing the envelope, he has experimented with various techniques, using window glass as well as fusible art glass.
Throughout the years, he has been commissioned to create several stained glass overlays,
including one that was 6'x6'.
With his wife, Mecca, he enjoys learning new art skills - especially when combined with travel. Examples include bone carving from New Zealand and wood carving from Papua New Guinea
