IBF Glass Design's Profile
Bio
Irene F. Baker-Artist statement
My delight and appreciation for all forms of artistic expression have been present in my core all my life. I earned a degree in art from college and have experimented with virtually every media and art form for many years. It was with glass that I found my media of choice. Glass presents the artist with an array of colors, textures, styles and illusions. Since it offers a variety ranging from transparent to opaque, the combinations for design are limitless. My influence comes from impressionism and the challenge of using glass.
I have evolved as a glass artist since taking a glass class
nearly 15 years ago. Today, I routinely create not only the traditional
foil or leaded glass panels, windows, doors and transoms, but have
expanded into warm glass and fused items that incorporate my
mature sense of color and textures with whimsical designs.
My free-standing nature collection includes a half dozen types of
animals that excite the imagination. Some of my fused glass
abstract creations are framed and ready for hanging in a
conversational spot in the home.
I continue to create magnificent dichroic glass jewelry including pendants, earrings, keychains, hairpins and the like. I recently developed a 'boiled glass' bowl collection that presents as an ethereal color flow and can be created to blend with any decor. My latest fanciful group includes fused glass girls touting jointed arms and legs and outrageous accessories. I am constantly evolving new methods and techniques to my work that enhances the texture, color, and unique designs of warm glass. I voraciously consume and integrate new fusing materials and products into my work by continuous experimentation and perfection of methods of their use.
