Bio
Art and creativity have always been part of my life. My mother was a professional artist and my father was a design engineer. I am the eldest of four children. I grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin and went to the University of Wisconsin, majoring in Occupational Therapy. Upon graduation I worked in a variety of settings - hospitals, out patient clinics, schools, etc. My work included those with physical disabilities, mental impairments, developmental issues and patients of all ages.
Professionally, as an occupational therapist it was exciting to creatively help others achieve independence.
Upon retirement from the Chair of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Lake MIchigan College, I looked at a variety of activities. I have been involved with the Niles Downtown Development Program (promoting such activities as The Hunter Ice Festival, the French Market); the First Presbyterian Church (teaching Sunday School), and the community theater group Four Flags Players (Acting - The God Committee, Steel Magnolias, Harvey, a number of Mystery Dinner Theater production; Directing - Christmas Carol as a radio play, Ghost of a Chance). I have recently started work with the Oliver Players with “Mystery at the Mansion” at the Copshalon Mansion.
Mosaics have always interested me. Glass has such a glow! About six years ago I began to work with glass mosaics. That medium has captured me! One can always cut and shape the glass to fit - like a unique zig-saw puzzle! It has been fun to do whimsical items as well as more artistic projects. Working with others with the same interest in glass mosaics has continued to inspire me daily. Currently I teach art at Saint Mary’s Elementary School as “Artist in Residence.” I also teach mosaics in my home studio for both children and adults. It has been an inspiring experience as I have met so many talented and creative people.
I feel that each one of us have God given talents in ALL areas! Which ones we choose to expand and develop depend on a number influences - our own make-up, our families, our communities, and each person we meet and work with. How very fortunate and blessed I have been to have had a supportive and creative family! How very fortunate and blessed to have so many people touch my life. Encouragement for so many sources have helped me develop and grow into the person I am. Many thanks to all, including my husband, children and grandchildren.
