Pros
Removes oxidation from solder providing a bright surface to apply patina. Its soft enough that it won't scratch the glass, yet hard enough to polish lead. Doesn't leave particles that can rust like steel wool. Its an 'expendable' - but nevertheless lasts through numerous projects. I view it as an essential.

Cons
A bit too course to get some of the nicks and crannies in the solder. Would be better if it were finer, like steel wool.
