Black Cat Mosaics's Profile
Bio
I've thoroughly enjoyed the process of experimenting and learning about various styles of mosaic art, since early 2012, when I discovered the fascinating world of contemporary mosaic art. In my early work, I created garden mosaics, such as birdbaths and sculptural mosaic pieces, and I learned how to use industrial waterproofing techniques and highly durable epoxy grout. My indoor mosaic fine art has included everything from small mosaic mirrors, a whimsical mosaic shoe, a Beach series featuring seashells, a spring series featuring hand cut vintage slate roofing tiles, combining special paint techniques in mosaic art, and a mixed media mosaic series. I always like to try new experiments by using new materials and exploring new creative processes. I'm is particularly drawn to abstract expressionism and enjoy combining elements from the natural world with beautiful art glass, which is highlighted in my new, trademarked, “Illuminated Shards®” mosaic style. I create modern-day artistic alchemy, by combining textures, colors, and effects of light, under my business name, “Black Cat Mosaics.” Black Cat Mosaics was named in honor of a beloved family pet, (Johnny), a black cat, who was always mesmerized and intrigued when I was learning how to create mosaic art, as I healed from medical problems. Johnny was a force of humor, unconditional love, and joy. Although Johnny is no longer with us, we are keeping the name in his memory.
