Pros I use it a lot and love it. It does vary in pattern and color. Learn to design for the pattern.....you will use thin tight lines differently than diffused color....and swirls work differently than parallel lines...but your work with this material can be truly yours and unique... each piece really will be different. Remember dichro on smooth machine rolled glass changes color more drastically in the kiln...so pay attention to what it looks like at an angle....but you really can produce very pretty pieces with this material. Some colors I didn't think I wanted at first have produced very nice.... more muted and subtle colors and designs .....a nice change....not everyone wants neon bright dichro jewelry. Some of the darker toned down colors are lovely with some fired gold accents.
Cons On the smooth glass the color changes more drastically when fired....so pay attention to the potential color shift. Sometimes it may get dark....but use those sections for something more soft and subtle. It isn't your typical dicro.... make that work for you (and your design) and you can make beautiful pieces with this material. It may take some experimentation to figure it out...but it is worth it.
Other Thoughts It is fun to have more dicro colors together in one piece without lots of extra cutting and grinding!
Premium Rainbow on Black - 96 COE
So many colors available in small jewelry sized pieces, also nice shading. Acid etches well.
Each piece is different so be flexible, some areas may be dark...but you can grind or etch these areas and add mica colors!
Every piece is different...so have fun with it. Brighten up dark areas with mica (on the glass base) or with liquid gold.
