Create your own glass flower while working out of Delphi's "Double Dragon" furnace in this traditional sculpting glass class. Learn the basics of this ancient art form through hands on experience with authentic tools and equipment. Students will complete one (1) unique flower when working personally with an instructor. Class always begins with verbal safety instruction, followed by a live demonstration. When it comes to making your piece, students can participate as much as they feel comfortable! We have a variety of frit (crushed up glass) to choose from to personalize your color combination. Length of class is approximate and depends on the number of participants. Those that finish first are welcome to stay and watch the rest of the participants, or depart.
Your creation needs to be annealed (cooled down slowly) in a kiln, and will be available for pick up the following day, or can be shipped for a small fee.
Safety glasses are mandatory and will be provided. Please do NOT wear open toed shoes or sandals.
The following are recommendations, but not required to participate in class:
Long pants, and a long sleeve shirt can help shield from heat.
Natural fiber clothes are best (cotton, linen, etc.)
Hair that can obstruct your view is encouraged to be tied back.
Students are advised to bring their own water, however cold bottled water will be provided.
Pictures and videos are encouraged.
This project does not require blowing the glass. Please see our other glassblowing class offerings if you are interested in learning the glassblowing technique.
Pros : Isabelle is a great teacher and was great at meeting each of where our interests were. There was a great range of colors to chose from. Appreciated the water, cool air machine, and careful attention to safety gear. I am definitely coming back.
Pros : The instructor was so nice and sweet and definitely makes you feel comfortable doing everything. I'm so happy with the way my flower turned out and would definitely take the class again just to make more. Such a fun experience even if you do it alone!!
Cons : Cant really think of anything other than it is a little hot in the building so make sure you bring some water and stay hydrated!!
Other Thoughts : Such a cool class and experience and will definitely look into taking more classes!!
Pros : I love that we are really involved in production. I feel like what I make really is MINE, but the staff are totally there to make sure it comes out and my vision is achieved. I feel safe. I feel skilled. I feel artistic and accomplished and the list goes on. Plus I got a really cool flower out of it!
Cons : The only con is really a pro. My flower doesn't look like a perfect flower. But if I wanted that, I could buy one from the shelf. My amoeba-flower is MINE. I made it. Weird shape and all.
Other Thoughts : I am not a crafty-artsy person, but I know I will love what I make in a Delphi class. And each class, I feel like my grasp of the colors and processes gets better and I love the look more. So warning, the classes get addictive! They are so rewarding mentally, with a bonus pretty thing to take home.
Pros : The instructors, Isabel and Roy, were top notch! They are knowledgeable and fun. They make a great team. The class was so much fun!
Cons : Everyone needs to realize that the glass doesn't always perform the way you may want it to. You need to be able to go with the process and not be frustrated if your piece isn't what you original plan.
Other Thoughts : Fantastic experience. Highly recommend.
Pros : Knowledgeable glass instructors went over safety and the process of making beautiful glass flowers. Students get the choice of frit colors for a custom flower making experience.
Cons : You'll want to keep making more flowers and glass projects.
Pros : I love the one on one teaching at Delphi and this class was awesome . Being able to design and sculp my own flower was totally amazing.
Both instructors are awesome and they help you so much. I can't wait until I can pick up my flower.
Thank you for another great class.
Pros : I had a great experience at this beginner class with Isabelle as our instructor. She walked us through each step thoroughly and safely until we had our art piece completed. I recommend this class and instructor!
Cons : It was a very hot class so it may be helpful to bring a neck cooling banana if you get warm easily. However, they provided cold water for us.
