Koi was created using sheet glass, float glass, powder, frit, stringer and mica. Sheet glass was used for the basin, which was slumped into a hankerchief mold. Each petal of the white lotus was individually cut, powdered, fused and then slumped into the same mold. They were then assembled to form the completed flower, to which mica and stringer were added. The fish are powder and formed using freeze and fuse, then finished with mica and enamel. Float glass and coarse frit, for a rocky effect, finishes this 8"X8" piece.
I took my beginners class at AGFC in Austin, Tx. in November 2009.
