We created Sorrow to try to convey some of the feelings that a deep loss causes. There is a loss, but there can also be the sensation of the world pressing down on you and a sense of being alone.
We chose a variety of glasses, and textures, to bring the Angel and tree to life. The Herringbone texture was perfect for the wing feathers and the Amber Cord made a lovely tree.
Sorrow is over 245 pieces that were wrapped in copper foil and then soldered together. She is 36" x 36" (in the zinc frame).
Based upon the "Angel of Grief" sculpture (1894) by William Wetmore Story.
