Point Betsie Lighthouse

Description:

This 12" x 12" panel, one of a set of three panels depicting northwest Michigan landmarks, depicts the famous and gorgeous Point Betsie Lighthouse, located a few miles north of Frankfort, Michigan just south of the beginning of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.  Its beautiful shoreline where people hunt for Petoskey Stones is only a part of the beauty here -- the lighthouse itself is an icon with its red roof  and white light tower.  This pattern is one I traced from a photo I took on one of my walks along the Lake Michigan shore.  Using different colors, patterns, and textures of greens I created the lovely bushes and trees that decorate the hill on which the lighthouse resides, and near the bottom you can see the sand dunes encroaching, dotted with dune grasses created with wire overlays.  Using clear and clear/white Baroque glass, I created a sky that during the day looks like cloudy, windy skies. At night, with the light behind the panel, the white swirls look like the light coming from the structure to guide the lake freighters to safety.
