Fusing with Enamels
Recommended Starter Kits and Instructional Supplies:
| 1. | Clean your glass with dish detergent and warm water. Place stencil on glass and fill sifter about 1/3 full of dry enamel. |
| 2. | Use index finger, pencil, or paintbrush end to tap on sifter cup to release enamel onto your glass surface. Moving from side to side, overlap the paths of the enamel that are already on the surface to put down an even coat. For different enamel colors, sections of the stencil can be covered with paper. |
| 3. | Using a line sifter can be helpful. The enamel powders are applied through a small opening at the end of the tool, making it perfect for adding detail. |
| 4. | For ease in lifting, make a small handle on both ends of the stencil, using a strip of copper foil or masking tape. |
| 5. | Fire your piece: Set the kiln to rise 600°F/hour until 1000°F; then 300°F/hour until the pyrometer reaches the appropriate temperature (1479° for 96 COE; 1500°F for 90 COE); set the kiln to soak for 10 minutes; allow kiln to cool; enjoy your project! |
